John 14:26  But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Mark 1:8  I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

1 Cor 6:19  Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;

Isa 11:2  The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord—

The Holy Spirit has two areas of responsibility that we are going to talk about this morning.  One is internal and the other is external.

Internally, the Holy Spirit is given to us as proof of our decision to follow Christ.  He connects us with God, interprets to us spiritual truths, and leads us through life as we daily choose to take up our cross.

God’s Acceptance Gift Acts 15:8  God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us.

Good Gift Luke 11:13  If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Seal Eph 1:13  And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,

Sanctification Rom 15:16  to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles with the priestly duty of proclaiming the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become an offering acceptable to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

Cleansing Titus 3:5  he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,

Witness of Jesus Christ Acts 5:32  We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”

Life Matt 1:18  This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.

Voice Mark 12:36  David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared: “ ‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.” ’

Voice Mark 13:11  Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.

Voice Luke 1:67  His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied:

Revealer Luke 2:26  It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.

Joy Luke 10:21  At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit

Teacher Luke 12:12  for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”

Vision Acts 7:55  But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.

Peace Acts 9:31  Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace. It was strengthened; and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it grew in numbers, living in the fear of the Lord.

God’s Voice Acts 13:2  While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said

Not a Burden Acts 15:28  It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you

Hope Rom 15:13  May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Truth 1 Cor 12:3  Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.

(over and over in Ezekiel the Spirit of God lifts him up)

Leader in Everything of God Matt 4:1  Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.

The second aspect of the Holy Spirit is the baptism.  Externally, the Holy Spirit causes our new lives to be broadcast to the world in a manner that is unnatural for us.  We become bolder for Christ, we live according to a new faith and we are able to minister to the world in a way that only God could work.  The Holy Spirit within us works externally post-baptism to accomplish the miracles of Christ in today’s society.

Acts 2:4  All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Acts 10:44-46  While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.

Acts 19:6 When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.

Brilliance or Liveliness Matt 3:11  “I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

Power and Conviction 1 Thess 1:5  because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction.

Power to Witness Acts 1:8  But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

We can…
