The Makeup of Revival

What is needed in order for us to experience revival at Highland Park Baptist Church?
What brings a church or an individual believer to the point of needing revival?

The Solution to the Problem

God does not operate like many of us do. We oftentimes complain, whine, or pout about problems, but we have nor do we ever intend on having actual solutions.
Haggai 1:8 - God gives the solution to His people, who are in desperate need of His touch. There are two commands given:
Go up the mountain - The life of believers throughout Scripture is constantly on the move. Matthew 28:19
Build the house - These Israelites had stopped the work which the Lord had laid before them. What are you in the process of building? The participles circling the command of Matt. 28:19-20
Haggai 1:9-11 - God reveals their spiritual issue which is affecting their material life.
These Israelites were not upward focused in their philosophy or practice of faith.
They were inward focus v. 9
They were outward focused vs. 10-11
Churches oftentimes fall prey to the same mistakes:
An inward focused church carries only for its members and will not go out and build the church outside its four walls.
An outward focused church will oftentimes degrade worship to pacify those without the church.
But, an upward focused church recognizes the need to reverence God and reach the lost because God commanded for us to go and build!

The Secret of Revival

Haggai 1:12-14 - The secret for revival is found within these verses.
They listened to the man of God and recognized the voice of God.
There will never be revival apart from obedience.
There will never be obedience without recognition of the voice of God from the man of God. Romans 10:14-17
v. 14 - Obedience will stir our spirits to revival.
