The Context.

Matthew 28:16–17 NASB95
But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful.
The Resurrection has occurred.
The 11 Disciples are coming to meet the disciples.
The 12 minus Judas.
Perhaps some of them had no even seen him yet.
They worship- and some doubted.
Keep in mind- these men knew what Jesus had just went through.
They had saw the excruciating nature of His death.
How can he be standing here.
Is this a dream?
We know that doubt after the resurrection is not uncommon. We are told that Thomas doubted before he saw Jesus.
He wanted to stick his hands into his side before he would believe.

The Control

Look at verse 18
Matthew 28:18 NASB95
And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Jesus having been resurrected
Has achieved victory over death
Explain- resurrection power and life in and of himself
He has achieved victory over sin
Explain- innocence
He has achieved victory over Satan’s plan to thwart the salvation plan of God.
Jesus now declares that he has all authority.
What does this mean?
This mean Christ has assumed the throne by virtue of his resurrection and he will now carry out His plan to save a people from every tribe every tongue and every nation.
He has all authority over death.
Over sin
Over Satan.
The king has returned from the great battle with the keys over everything that once held us in it power.
The scope of His kingdom is all encompassing.
He has all authority. Nothing is left that is not subject to Him and His rule.
And the whole earth and all heaven must submit to Him.
This reminds us of the vision in Daniel 7
Daniel 7:13–14 NASB95
“I kept looking in the night visions, And behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a Son of Man was coming, And He came up to the Ancient of Days And was presented before Him. “And to Him was given dominion, Glory and a kingdom, That all the peoples, nations and men of every language Might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion Which will not pass away; And His kingdom is one Which will not be destroyed.
Jesus’s statement is one of authority.
And from that authority he gives the command

The command

Matthew 28:19–20 NASB95
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Go and Make Disciples of all the nations.

Since Christ’s dominion is universal, the gospel must go to the whole world. This commandment is the primary reason for evangelism and missions.

Baptizing them-
Name singular- F, S, and S (3 and 1)
Teaching them to observe all that I commanded you.
Discipleship
How ought we to live
Observe- not merely looking at and knowing but doing the commands
This is the will of God for our church.
This is the will of God for your life.
I’m not sure what I am called to do. Nonsense- its right here.
Go and make disciples of all nations.

The comfort.

Matthew 28:20 NASB95
teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
The promise of His presence when we go is vital to our success in fulfilling the mission. He’s the one with the authority.
The end of the age refers to the end of time. Meaning there is never a time in which believers will not have the all power possessing Christ with them.
