In Genesis 12:1-3, we read of God’s incredible, gracious promises to Abram. These promises will form the background for the rest of Scripture, leading all the way up to the New Covenant, of which we are now a part. Now, we see this promise placed into a covenant. Covenants were a part of the Ancient Near East, and there were many types of covenants. At the root of all covenants, however, is an agreement made between two parties or individuals.
In Genesis chapter 15, God binds himself to this agreement to bless Abram. It is an act of extreme condescension and grace. God is a condescending God, which for us is a wonderful aspect to His revelation to us and His salvation of us.
We learn much that will be important for the rest of Abram’s life and the entirety of Scripture.

I. Abram’s Questions and the Confirmation of the Covenant- 15:1-11

II. Abram’s Vision and the Future of the Covenant People- 15:12-16

III. Abram’s Faith and the Generosity of God- 15:17-20

*God keeps His Promises
