a constant focus on Good News, rather than Bad News The Greek word here is Ueaggelion This NOUN is used 76 times in the New Testament – two other forms of this word are used another 18 times Paul uses it 8 other times in the book of Romans
Romans 1.1 Romans 1.9 Romans 2.16 Romans 10.16 Romans 11.28 Romans 15.19 Romans 16.25- BAD NEWS/GOOD NEWS
bad news = the bad things happing to you or in the world
House caught on fire 4th grade Parents got divorced when I was in 6th grade My dad told me 3 different times I could not live with him when I desperately wanted to I could keep on sharing bad news with you, but I think you know what bad news is We have lived a year of bad news Bad News = your sin, other's sin, the world's sin
Romans 3:23 (ESV) — 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 6:23 (ESV) — 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. GOOD NEWS for the BAD NEWS
Romans 3:24–25 (ESV) — 24 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. Are you being GUIDED by good news or bad news?
God EmPowered
Romans 1:16 (ESV) — 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
relying on God's Power in you and through you, rather than your power
Romans 8:31–39 (ESV) — 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 15:13 (ESV) — 13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
Power to STAND POWER to WITHSTAND Are you being GUIDED by your Power or GOD's Power
Saved through Faith
Romans 1:16 (ESV) — 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
relying on faith in Jesus Christ Alone, rather than your good works.
Romans 1:17 (ESV) — 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”
Romans 10:5–13 (ESV) — 5 For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that the person who does the commandments shall live by them. 6 But the righteousness based on faith says, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 “or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. It is not about your works - you can not work your way into heaven It is not about other's work - no one else can work you way into heaven
