Make new friends and find new enemies.
Life has things that are definite. Job says man born of a women is of a few days and full of trouble.
Trouble is durable when it’s someone else’s trouble and not so plausible if it’s your trouble. STORMS TRAGIC KILLINGS DIVORCES JOB SHUT DOWN HEALTH
But if you live long enough or wrong enough or right enough these negative gremlins just seem to find you and become a menace in your life.
It’s just unavoidable.
As if it’s a little agitating puppy that keeps following you around.
In this text Jesus seems to denote that how ever you live, temptations will come as a slivering serpent to tempt and take you down.
Isn’t this mystifying? Jesus is saying if you live a wonton and unholy life temptations will come and destroy you. If you life righteous temptations will come to destroy you.
There is not StarTrek shield to protect you from being tempted or agitated by the destructive desires of wrong.
David says Psa 142:4 I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul.
The worst and the best of us are victims of the assault. So there is not escape from the fiery darts being thrown at you. Note I said they will be thrown at you. Now it’s up to you what happens after they are thrown.
Now Jesus is heading into Jerusalem for the final time before the feast and eventually the crucifixion.
He is giving the disciples some last life lessons and helpful instructions on life and spiritual issues.
Luk 17:1 Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!
Luk 17:2 It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.
Luk 17:3 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.
Luk 17:4 And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.
ISV VERSION:
Luk 17:1 Jesus told his disciples, "It is inevitable that temptations to sin will come, but how terrible it will be for the person through whom they come!
Mat_6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Mat_6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
Mat_6:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Mat_18:21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?
Note: Peter has not denied Christ yet
Judas has not betrayed Christ yet
The disciples have not deserted and ran yet
You just don’t know what’s awaiting you around the corner or tomorrow.
Jesus told Peter;
Luk 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
Luk 22:32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
Luk 22:33 And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.
Luk 22:34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
What Jesus is saying I’m forgiving you now and when you get strengthen, you will know how to forgive and uplift your brother.
And you are going to have to do it again and again and again....because you are going to need it again and again and again........
