It wasn’t me - v11-12, 16
It wasn’t me - v11-12, 16
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
It is only by our attachment or union to Christ by grace, through faith that we participate in the work and ministry of Christ.
But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.
We can either be used of God like Pharaoh, like Assyria, or we can surrender rightly to the Lordship of Christ and get bust doing Kingdom work.
It was YOU - v13-15
It was YOU - v13-15
“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.
But they all cried out together, “Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas”—
The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and according to that law he ought to die because he has made himself the Son of God.”
The child of God knows that it was your sins crying out crucify Him. It was your sins that caused Him to endure mockery, abuse, and brutal death.
The unsaved have yet to admit to yourself, to God, and to everyone else that it was your sin. They have yet to confess being complicit; cooperating in the death of Jesus.
There are those in this room perhaps who have not recognized; not ready to be labeled a sinner, not ready to say it was me.
Behold the man upon a cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

It was for you - v17-21
“And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled.
they shall come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn, that he has done it.
When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
God has accomplished salvation for all who believe!
The unbelieving being awakened to their sin might dare ask, was it for me too?
Charles Wesley:
And can it be that I should gain
An int’rest in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain—
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! How can it be,
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
I give no simple yes to the lost, because I dare not offer you peace in your mind while your heart remains darkened.
Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out,
And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
You ask if the blood of Christ is for you? Ask Him. Stop looking to every other comfort in life; to every other distraction, to anything but the cross of Christ; to His empty tomb; to His work finished on the cross and now interceding for all who believe.
There is no such thing as someone who believes (trusts) in Christ who does not repent, and there is no one who repents apart from believing.
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quick’ning ray—
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free,
I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.
The child of God is both humbled and comforted at the thought of Calvary, knowing it was for them, and their sins are forgiven. The sinner apart from Christ who is awakened to their guilt must at once repent and believe the gospel of Jesus or else perish in their sin.
