Manna from Heaven
11 Give us today the food we need,
There is an interesting thought as to what Jesus was saying here, he was presenting the disciples with the idea that the daily bread was from God and not mans ability especially a child of God’s. As a child you are solely dependent on the nurturing of a parent. You are waiting for them to provide for you in your time of hunger.
Jesus points this out to them in this prayer. You are not going to provide for yourself, your father is going to provide for you. We talked about the sovereign king who provides for His subjects, this is apart of that idea. God will provide for your needs, all of them.
Being of Jewish descent the disciples would have knew the story of manna from heaven very well. They would have heard it over and over again. So Christ is pointing back to that story as a reminder that God will take care of your needs for that day.
4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Look, I’m going to rain down food from heaven for you. Each day the people can go out and pick up as much food as they need for that day. I will test them in this to see whether or not they will follow my instructions.
