a social challenge
a social challenge
we are bombarded with social challenges in society today.
the church is going to have to deal with those challenges.
we cannot sweep them under the rug.
the question:
the question:
what must I “do”? vs. 26
what must I “do”? vs. 26
the answer:
the answer:
what is written? vs. 26
what is written? vs. 26
Jesus points him to the law. Why?
yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.
The Lawyer responds.
You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
Jesus tells him what he must “do”.
“Yeah just do that!”
Is that attainable? No, Only Jesus was able to fulfill that? So in turn, there is nothing you can do!
What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin, as it is written:
“None is righteous, no, not one;
no one understands;
no one seeks for God.
All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;
no one does good,
not even one.”
“Their throat is an open grave;
they use their tongues to deceive.”
“The venom of asps is under their lips.”
“Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.”
“Their feet are swift to shed blood;
in their paths are ruin and misery,
and the way of peace they have not known.”
“There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.
God uses the law to convict sinners!
