Memorial

Introduction

This Afternoon, we honor the life of Martha Weaver. I know that many of you could stand where i am standing and do a much better job than I. I am thankful for this opportunity. We all have unique experiences with this precious soul, and for the foreseeable future we will all relive fond memories of our time with her.

First Little Oinker and Mott not Martha

My Memories will begin just a few short years ago, when In week 3 of my service at EBC i was faced with the overwhelming task of the Little Oinker’s BBQ Sale. I had heard of the magnitude of this event, and to be honest i was terrified. But i believe that Martha, Jane, and Sissy saw the deer in the headlights look in my eyes and assured me that all would be fine if i just did what they said to do! Another memory confirms her strong will and unapologetic tongue. I was raised in a “Yes Sir Yes Maam” fashion. When i would address her it was always Mrs. Martha. One day, she pulled me to the side and made sure that i knew that her name was “Mott” not Mrs. Martha.

but She wasn’t only a hard working servant in the Church:

She was also:

a Wife

Over the last few days, I have had the opportunity of hearing the testimony that Bro. Billy Joe and Mott left behind. They were a team, an example that we can learn from today!

a Momma

Though i never had the pleasure of meeting Buddy, i have heard many stories from Tracy about the way that Mott worked tirelessly to care for her family!

a Sister

She had 6 siblings. 2 of which she has been reunited with. While in the hospital, I was able to see legacy that is left behind.

a Friend

Many of you who are here today can attest to that! She loved a good conversation, and you never had to wonder what was on her mind.

a Christian

and for the Christian, this is not a day of fear or sadness. This is a day of Joy for those who have surrendered their lives to Jesus. Why? Because we know that in Jesus:

The Fear of Death has been eliminated

Hebrews 2:14 ESV14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,

Sting of Death has been eradicated

1 Corinthians 15:55–57 ESV55 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Experience of Death has been illuminated

The scriptures tell us what earthly Death will look like for the Christian. The Bible shines a light on a subject that tends to live more in the darkness of our world. The Bible Says of the poor sore covered man names lazarus who sat at the city gate:
Luke 16:22 CSB22 One day the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s side.
1 Thessalonians 4:13 CSB13 We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, concerning those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who have no hope.

The Gospel

Romans 10:9 CSB9 If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Matthew 4:19 CSB19 “Follow me,” he told them, “and I will make you fish for people.”

We Rejoice this afternoon. We rejoice in the Hope of eternal life. We rejoice knowing that Mott surrendered her life to Jesus! Do you have confidence that you will one day join her in Heaven? Commit your life to Jesus, and you too can have the Joy of this eternal Life!
