18 Then Moses said, “I pray You, show me Your glory!”
4 One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord And to meditate in His temple.
By reading the scriptures I am so renewed that all nature seems renewed around me and with me. The sky seems to be a pure, a cooler blue, the trees a deeper green. The whole world is charged with the glory of God and I feel fire and music under my feet. Thomas Merton
Glory is defined as
1. very great praise, honor, or distinction bestowed by common consent; renown: to win glory on the field of battle.
2. something that is a source of honor, fame, or admiration
3. adoring praise or worshipful thanksgiving: Give glory to God.
4. resplendent beauty or magnificence: the glory of autumn.
5. a state of great splendor, magnificence, or prosperity.
Can I just say that there are mysteries and hidden aspects of God and when they are revealed they are called glory.
When these hidden aspects about the Lord are revealed. Man has to place some name are tittle to them.
The presence of God was visible the tabernacle we called it Shekinah glory.
When one see insight and fresh revelation from God’s heart someone shout with joy glory. Why? They just saw something.
Something that was hidden. Something that was a mystery was revealed.
I want to tell the story of St. Augustine death. He was one of the most important and greatest leaders of His day.
His writing are some of the purest and awesome insight to the heart and beauty of God and we have read and quoted him for more than a thousand year.
On his deathbed, surround by his closest friends, as Augustine slipped away to be with the Lord, his breath ceased and his heart stopped and a wonderful sense of peace filled the room. Suddenly his yes reopened, and with his face aglow he declared to those present, “I have seen the Lord. All I have written is but straw.” Then he left to his eternal home.
Moses’ cry was Lord PLEASE show me your glory.
A longing to know to have to inquire. To seek and to find. What is hidden.
2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.
Notice a hidden glory. Not because God does not want us to know but he want us to desire him. To want Him.
To want to FOLLOW.
Now look at
29 “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law.
Those concealed secret things belong to your lord but when they are uncovered and revealed. That glory is His children’s forever.
Kingdom mysteries
11 Jesus answered them, “To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted.
Moses has a relationship with God and his Glory.
Now lets look at the context of you first text.
8 And it came about, whenever Moses went out to the tent, that all the people would arise and stand, each at the entrance of his tent, and gaze after Moses until he entered the tent. 9 Whenever Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent; and the Lord would speak with Moses.
(Notice the GLORY Cloud) Shekinah
and all the people saw it.
10 When all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tent, all the people would arise and worship, each at the entrance of his tent.
Notice how the people responded to the presence and manifestation of the Lord.
They worship. God manifestation always demands a response
Watch what God does with Moses
11 Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses returned to the camp, his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent.
Intimacy and relationship produce friendship with God.
You can sing all day that you are a friend of God and that Jesus is Yo HomeBoy. But outside of one on one intimacy and relationship and longing after him.
You are a lair.
15 “No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.
So notice Jesus says I call you friends based upon you relationship and revelation.
“all the things I have heard from My Father I have made known (REVEALED GLORY) to you.
(why did Moses see the glory of God????) Passion, longing intimacy, desire)
12 Then Moses said to the Lord, “See, You say to me, ‘Bring up this people!’ But You Yourself have not let me know whom You will send with me. Moreover, You have said, ‘I have known you by name, and you have also found favor in My sight.’
Our second text.
4 One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord And to meditate in His temple.
(the Lords response)
14 And He said, “My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest.”
GLORY!!!!
(Moses Again longing and desiring the Presence of the Lord. “Go with us”)
15 Then he said to Him, “If Your presence does not go with us, do not lead us up from here. 16 “For how then can it be known that I have found favor in Your sight, I and Your people? Is it not by Your going with us, so that we, I and Your people, may be distinguished from all the other people who are upon the face of the earth?”
Now I quoted Psalms 27:4 what watch the same eco-ing words from the heart of David.
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread? 2 When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh, My adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell.
3 Though a host encamp against me, My heart will not fear; Though war arise against me, In spite of this I shall be confident.
(Notice the Lord Response “you have found me”)
17 The Lord said to Moses, “I will also do this thing of which you have spoken; for you have found favor in My sight and I have known you by name.”
(MOSES CRY!!! THE REALITY OF HIS HEART)
18 Then Moses said, “I pray You, show me Your glory!”
18And he said, “Please, show me Your glory.”
You hidden secrets
The kingdom!!!
(God response and his answer giving him the desire of His heart)
19 And He said, “I Myself will make all My goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of the Lord before you; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion on whom I will show compassion.” 20 But He said, “You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live!” 21 Then the Lord said, “Behold, there is a place by Me, and you shall stand there on the rock; 22 and it will come about, while My glory is passing by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand until I have passed by.
(God says you can only see me and my glory in the man Jesus. The ROCK)
on Christ the solid rock I stand
22So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by.
I will place you in the rock…
Remember the kingdom is about position
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!”
23 “Then I will take My hand away and you shall see My back, but My face shall not be seen.”
So then Moses takes a pin and write the book of Genesis.
Through Jesus we can see this Glory. We can have this Glory.
