Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.
But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.”
Jesus paints a beautiful and clear picture…
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
The Word Of God:
Is living and Active
A lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path
Profitable for teaching,
For reproof
For correction,
For training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.
The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.
Ephesians calls the word the sword of the spirit
The word is my road map
The word is my play book
Jesus said…
The one who hears my word and does not do what it says to do…
They are like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation....
A proper foundation does more than just hold a house above ground. Building foundations also keep out moisture, insulates against the cold, and resists movement of the earth around it.
My house = My spiritual house - My Belief System - My thought pattern and process - My actions - How I respond - My perspective
When I don’t do what God word tells me to do… I’m building my house/Life on the ground without a foundation…
I’m stepping out with nothing underneath me
It may look good on the inside and outside
But no solid foundation…
When the flood arose and the stream broke…
The flood & The breaking stream
Where did the water come from, that caused the flood that broke the stream?
Storms Of Life
Life comes with troubles, regardless of whether or not you follow Jesus.
The storms of life are many and varied. They include illness, opposition, pressures at work, unemployment, relationship difficulties, disappointment, bereavement, family and many more.
Remember it started out as a storm - And no one is exempt!
I just feel… When it rain it pours...
And because I have no foundation…
“immediately it fell”
This it why I immediately respond out of:
Fear
Angrer
Doubt
pain
loneliness
Stress
Worry
Anxiety
Negativity
“and the ruin of that house was great”
Ruin: an event or act that results in destruction; especially that involves the breakup of component parts.
Do you feel like the storm has brought on destruction?
Do you feel ruined?
Do you feel that you are working with broken pieces?
Jesus said...
Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like:
he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock.
Doing = Digging / Digging leads to laying the foundation on the rock…
The word removes and the word Lays the foundation (My Belief System) on the rock… (Work the shovel and the rock)
Doing - brings experience
Doing - Changes my BS
Doing - Changes my perspective of “Storms”
And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.
The storm came
The flood arose
the stream broke
But I’m not shaken…
Why? Because I’m a Doer
His word tells me to:
Trust
Believe
Keep my eyes on him
He’s a protector
Provider
Defender
Refuge
Strength
Peace
I’m not shaken…
Because I’m Well Built
I’m A doer…
