Some statistics on Divorce

38% of Christian marriages end in divorce
None of these are good numbers
Teens are 25% more likely to experience depression if they are in a divorced home
20% in a non-divorced home
45% in a divorced home
Divorce is clearly not a good thing most of the time
But, our culture believes in ‘expressive divorce’
"The majority of marital breakups today are driven by a quest for greener grass. It is known as the 'expressive divorce." (Helping the Struggling Adolescent 292)
Every one of you has experienced divorce either firsthand or you know somebody who’s parents have gotten divorced
SO HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO TALK ABOUT DIVORCE???

God’s vision for marriage

Gen 2:23-24
Marriage is supposed to be beautiful, loving, and life-giving.
But, sin entered in.
Everything that God made was tainted by sin, including humanity and her relationships
Therefore, we don’t love each other perfectly.
Now, we live in a world where it’s hard to commit to something for a lifetime. It’s hard to have any relationship at all, let alone a relationship as intimate as marriage.

Understanding Divorce

Divorce sucks
It’s a sin, but it isn’t a worse sin than others
You, your parents, or your friends and their parents are not worse than anyone else for going through a divorce
You’re no more broken than the rest of us.
The Bible even gives reason for divorce in Matt. 19 and 1 Cor. 7.
Ultimately, divorce shows us our need for a Saviour
Jesus died to fix brokenness, including broken relationships.
But what do we do now… when Jesus hasn’t come back again?
In the meantime...
I’m always available to talk.
You can show the love of Jesus to your friends walking through this.
Know this, God loves you immeasurably. He will always be there for you.
