Romans 6:1-11
What we celebrate at Easter not only has to do with future hope, but also has everything to do with right here and right now. There is a reason that Christians cannot stay the same as their old self or as the world. Remaining unchanged by the gospel is not an option. Why? Not because we have to do something to get saved or to make our salvation complete, but because the work of Christ transforms us. Spiritually, we literally are different people. How then can we walk in our old ways? We can’t.
We have been made new
Our old self is crucified with Christ
We are no longer the same old man, but a new creation
2 Corinthians 5:17- Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Our new self is alive to God in Christ
If He would not have risen again, then this would not be true for us
He has risen and we must worship
What kind of worship does He desire?
Hymns?
Contemporary worship songs?
Preaching the gl-themed message or Bible verse on Facebook?
Of course thories of the empty tomb?
Posting an Easterese are pleasing to Him, but can not be our primary answer
He desires holiness
He desires for you to put sin to death as you rest in Him
He desires for you to live in accordance with what He has said
Christ has died so your old self would be crucified with Him. He rose and lives so that you will live in newness of life and in the power of His Spirit. Today, instead of doing only the external acts of worship, may our hearts and lives be given to Christ in worship as we strive to live in holiness for His glory.
