The believer is to be Under the influence of God’s Word and Under the influence of God’s Spirit.

The believer is to be taught by the Bible

Given by inspiration of God; Written for our learning

2 Ti 3:16 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for 3instruction in righteousness,

Ro 15:3-4 4 For whatever things were written before were written for our learning,

The word of God is living and powerful

A discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart

Heb 4:12 2 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Source of salvation

Ro 10:17 17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Eph 2:8 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith,

1 Pe 1:23-2:8 23 having been born again, …, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,

The Word of God Works in us

1 Th 2:13 13 For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.

The Word of God Teaches us to learn to fear and obey the Lord

Dt 31:12-13 12 Gather the people together, men and women and little ones, and the stranger who is within your gates, that they may hear and that they may learn to fear the Lord your God and carefully observe all the words of this law, 13 and that their children, who have not known it, may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God as long as you live

The Word of God Teaches us to learn to fear and obey the Lord correctly

Ro 10:2 … they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.

2 Ti 3:15-17 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for 3instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

The Word of God Teaches us to bear fruit fit for the kingdom of God

Mk 4:20 20 But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”

The believer is to be Led by the Spirit of God

There is to be one characteristic quality of all who are truly born again. That quality is that in their thoughts, behavioral patterns, and life-styles they are constantly and habitually led by the Spirit of God

Ro 8:5-9,12-14 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the 3carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For  if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

The mind set of those led by the Spirit

Set their minds on the things of the Spirit

Subject to the law of God

Please God.

You put to death the deeds of the body, (If you live according to the Spirit)

These are sons of God.

Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

Mt 7:20; 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

It was the Spirit who convicted us and showed us our need of the Savior.

It was the Spirit who imparted saving faith,

Who implanted the new nature within us,

And who daily witnesses within that we are God’s children.

The Spirit is our means of obeying the Word of God

1 Pe 1:22 you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit

It is through the Spirit of God we know the things of God

1 Co 2:10-16 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. 16 For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

No one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God

God has revealed them to us through His Spirit

We have received the Spirit from God, that we might know these things

These things we speak, in wisdom which the Holy Spirit teaches,

The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God,

For they are foolishness to him

Nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned

But he who is spiritual judges all things

We are to have the mind of Christ.

To be led by the Spirit of God means to be under the dominating influence of the Spirit

This leading is not to be restricted to objective knowledge of the commands of Scripture and conscious effort to obey them (though it most certainly includes that).

Rather, it more fully includes the subjective factor of being sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit throughout the day,

Promptings that if genuinely from the Holy Spirit will never encourage us to act contrary to Scripture.

“To be led by the Spirit” and “Walk in the Spirit” refers to the constant and effectual influence of the Holy Spirit in regulating the thoughts, feelings, and conduct of believers.

The Greek word translated led is a present participle, it may be translated, “as many as are continually being led by the Spirit of God

It describes the life-style of those who are sons of God

Eze 36:27 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.

Eph 5:9 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth),

Are you a child of God?

Are you under the influence?

Are you being taught by the Holy Bible?

Are you being led by the Holy Spirit?
