The Song of The Lamb
The Song of The Lamb
1 Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and amazing, seven angels with seven plagues, which are the last, for with them the wrath of God is finished.
2 And I saw what appeared to be a sea of glass mingled with fire—and also those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name, standing beside the sea of glass with harps of God in their hands.
3 And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, “Great and amazing are your deeds, O Lord God the Almighty! Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations!
4 Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.”
This begins a section that ends in Rev. 16:21
John brings us a vision that God has given him about the angels and their plagues God has given them to deliver.
Yet it simultaneously is about the victory over the beast and the enemy of God.
VS 1. We should note the plagues and the fact that these are the last and final for with these God’s wrath is complete.
VS 2. John had seen this vision all the way back in 4:6.
Notice the change — Crystal clear to mixed with fire.
The change is most likely connected contextually to vs. 3.
Be mindful of the Red Sea and the original song of Moses (EX. 15) as compared to this new song of Moses they are singing.
In essence, the sea has become mixed with fire because this the place where the Lamb has judged the beast.
The victory is coming for God’s faithful by the power of the Lamb.
We should point out vs. 2 states they conquered the number of his name—thus they had not given in to the mark.
Be mindful within their hands are the harps, picturing their rejoicing in song as they had been part of the battle.
vs. 3-4
The parallel as in the praising of God for the deliverance of Israel in the OT now the church in the NT
Read with me again vs. 3-4
Be mindful of the descriptions of God and His attributing character.
