I. The Lesson in the Command vs. 35

A. Jesus has been healing and preaching all day. He is tired, really at the point of exhaustion. He wants to go to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, where there were fewer people, and no big cities.
B. The command to go to the other side, was certain. When Jesus tells us to do something, He will see it to completion.
Philippians 1:6 NASB95
For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
Matthew 16:18 NASB95
“I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.
C. You might doubt it when the storm comes, but Jesus will see it come to pass. You will either help or hinder it with your obedience/disobedience.
D. Not only that, but Jesus wasn’t going to die in a storm, but on the cross. This wasn’t the end. While we don’t know our end, Jesus does, and even if it is our end then it is in God’s hands.

II. The Lesson in the Calamity vs. 36-39

A. There were other boats going through the storm, but Jesus was only in one boat. Many are going through the same storm that you’re going through, the only difference is that Jesus is with you. Could it be your going through what your going through, because you’re suppose to be an example to others .
B. Jesus was resting in the stern of the boat sleeping. Why? 1) Jesus was fully man. He was exhausted and slept as a result. 2) Jesus was fully God, and being the perfect picture of the Spirit filled follower, He rested in the sovereignty of God.
C. The disciples wake Jesus up in a panic. Some had been through storms before, but this time they thought they were going to die. You can look back and see what Yahweh has done for you, but this time it’s different. Because of the circumstances you forget what God can do. It could be that God is trying to break you before the storm is over. “Men throw broken things away, but God never uses anything until He first breaks it”- Adrian Rogers
D. Jesus calms the storm by literally saying to the wind to be muzzled. There are times Jesus calms our storms, in order to show us who He is.

III. The Lesson in the Calm vs. 40-41

A. Why are you afraid? List your reasons, but I guarantee you that Jesus is Lord of that.
B. How is it that you have no faith? It’s your fault that your faith is faulty. Grow in your faith, that’s what storms are for. If the crops have rain, and no manure, they won’t grow. If you don’t go through storms, and crap your faith won’t grow either!
C. Will you worship in awe, or grow bitter? The choice is yours!
