Prologue/Introduction to I John 1:1-4 Tests of eternal life or tests of fellowship? Yes. Eternal life is not simply something to be possessed , but experienced & expressed I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. Jn.10:10 Father, it’s time. When God wanted to send the best message He could; so He sent a person - Himself In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it…. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. Jn.1:1-5,14, 18 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life ( the message of life presented in a person’s life) I Jn.1:1 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known. Jn.1:18 No one has ever seen God, not so much as a glimpse. This one-of-a-kind God-Expression, who exists at the very heart of the Father, has made him plain as day. (The Message) It’s as if Jesus somehow comes out from God’s heart in order to come into ours When I think of all this (God’s eternal purpose), I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Eph.3:14 (NLT) What IS God’s eternal purpose? That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him Eph.1:10 to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord Eph.3:9-11 When I think of all this (God’s eternal purpose), I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust (daily) in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Eph.3:14-19 (NLT) No other book of the Bible talks about love as often as First John. About one in every 50 words is a form of “love”—that makes for about 52 mentions of love in just five short chapters. the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. I Jn.1:2-3 What is “fellowship?” How? May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit (Eph.3:16) be with you all.
