INTRODUCTION v.1-2a

EXP: Party in Jesus honor - (6 days before His death)

Held at Simon the Leper’s House - healed leper (only God can heal a leper). Illustration of Sin (only God can forgive)

-Lazarus is there, raised from the dead (only God can raise a person from the dead) Illustration of death (only God can give life!)

-All recognize and honor Jesus as the Son of God, God in the flesh! The Savior, the Messiah! Party On! That is reason to celebrate.

-Town-wide Joyful event.

1st: MARTHA - SERVING JESUS v.2b

EXP: Martha is a server - great we should all serve Him with the gifts that He has provided us with. Need to be careful not to let that be all we do, without stopping to worship and fellowship with Jesus too. It results in empty service…

-Martha had a wrong attitude at first concerning serving.

Luke 10:38-42 (NIV)

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!" 41 "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."

APP: -Don’t worry about what others are doing, do what God has called YOU to do. We can see she changed…

2nd: LAZARUS - FELLOWSHIP WITH JESUS v.2c

-Prayer. - talking with the one who gave us eternal life! Jesus gave life to Lazarus and gave Simon’s life back healing him from an incurable disease . Jesus heals us from the incurable disease of sin.

-Reading His Word - listening to His guidance

-Relationship - Knowing His Spirit is with us always!

3rd: MARY - WORSHIPPING JESUS v3

-Sacrificial Giving- Spikenard worth about $30,000 in our time. Year’s salary then. (Do you give to Jesus sacrificially?)

-She Lays Her Future at the Feet of Jesus. (FAITH)

Her Dowry - Allows the couple to spend the 1st year bonding, getting to know one another. Without this she is not a very good prospect for marriage (trad. Says she remained single all her life).

-She Lays Her Heart at the Feet of Jesus (LOVE)

She anoints the feet of Jesus out of love because she knows He is her savior and lord. Kings and Priests were anointed with oil

-She Submits her own glory to Jesus (SUBMISSION)

She lets her hair down and wipes His feet with her glory.

CONCLUSION v.4-11
