Ephesians 6:10-13
This morning is the start of our series on “The Armor of God”
This is one of my favorite groups of verses in the Bible!
It tells us how to win in the battles that we face as Christian’s.
As Christian’s we are in a battle.
And we need to know how to win that battle!
So lets read our text.
Pray
Let me ask you.....
if a soldier is going to war… would he go in his church clothes?
if a football player had a big game… would he play in his pajamas?
NO absolutely not! That would be silly!
Well Paul is writing here to Christians, and
he is reminding them/us that we have a real enemy!
and we are in a real battle with that enemy!
And we need to be ready to fight!
How do we get ready for that battle?
The first thing we need is is strength! v.10
Before we do anything, we need strength.
Before school, you get rest.
before a test, you study
before ever putting his gear, on a soldier
exercises and trains and get in shape.
And us as Christians need to do the same!
We need strength that only God can give us!
We need to be close to God and have a relationship with Him!
Read our Bibles
Pray everyday
Memorize Bible verses
We need to go to God for strength for our battle!
If we have a relationship with Him and ask,
He will give us that strength!
So we have strength and power that only God can give us.....
Now what?!
Now we put on the armor! v.11a
But what is the battle that we are in???
Let’s look again. v.11b-12
It’s not a battle like you see in movies.
Not a physical battle
It’s the battle against,
The world and the bad things in it
Our old, fallen, sinful flesh, and
The Devil!
Simply — It’s the battle against sin!
What is sin?
Sin is “anything that we do, that goes against what God has told us is right.”
Lying
cheating
Saying God’s name as a cuss word
disobeying what our parents tell you to do.
stealing
looking at things you shouldn’t on the computer
listening to music you shouldn’t
All of these things are sin.
And we get saved we should fight against those things for all we are worth!
Our old self before we got saved did those things with no problem!
and once we get saved our old selves still want to do those things.
And the Devil really wants you to do keep doing bad things (sinning)!
So that why Paul is writing here how to fight against it.
He warns we are fighting against (v12b)
That sounds scary!
Young people, here me!
The Devil is very real,
He wants you to fail
He wants you to sin and hurt yourself, and God
He wants you to go to Hell
He’s is scary and he is powerful.
I Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”
The Devil doesn’t want to just knock you down,
He wants to absolutely destroy you!
That sounds like something we cant win against!
But we can!
We just have to find strength in God, and
Put on his armor!
Paul tells us that if we do that, we can win!
Look at v.13
He says if we put on the whole armor,
that we can withstand.
It wont be easy!
Battle is not easy,
battles are messy and exhausting.
But we know that in the end we can have the victory!
As long as we are using God’s armor!
So what is the armor??
Over the next few weeks we will look at every piece in detail and what each one means.
But for now we will go ahead and read over them.
Read vs.14-18
So the Armor is made up of:
The girdle (belt) of truth
The Breastplate of Righteousness
The Shoes of the Gospel
The Shield of Faith
The Helmet of Salvation
The Sword of The Spirit
(added) Praying always
All of these make up the whole armor of God.
In v13. it says “the WHOLE armor”
If you go into battle, would you only want part of your armor?
Or would you want it all??
All of course!
So when we go into battle as Christians against...
The world and the bad things in it
Our old, fallen, sinful flesh, and
The Devil and sin
We should be fully prepared.
not half way!
Just like I’ve used the football player.
if he went into his game without his helmet,
he would be knocked out quickly.
We need to be fully prepared!
We need to have be doing what I said before.
Reading our Bible
Praying
memorizing Bible
and have a walk and a relationship with God!
We need to be putting on the armor daily,
and be ready for whatever the Devil and this world can throw at us.
Young people if you your saved.
You have this armor already!
But are you using it?
If you went into battle without your armor,
would you last very long?
NO!
Don’t leave the armor hanging in the closet!
Put on the armor of God!
The WHOLE armor.
The girdle (belt) of truth
The Breastplate of Righteousness
The Shoes of the Gospel
The Shield of Faith
The Helmet of Salvation
The Sword of The Spirit
(added) Praying always
Put it on and use it in the battle against sin and the Devil!
Young person if you your hear this morning,
and you haven’t believed and asked Jesus to save you....
You don’t have this armor.
You don’t have ways to protect you against the Devil.
You are at his mercy, now, and until you get saved!
There is a saying:
“Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay.”
Sin will make you do things you never thought you would do.
It will get you hooked in and be hard to quit
And it will ultimately cost you your life, and
send you to an eternity in Hell!
But it’s not too late for you!
There is hope in Jesus!
He has your armor ready for you,
all you need to do is call on Him and be saved.
Romans 10:9 says “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
Romans 10:13 says “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
and once you are saved you have full access to:
all of His blessings
His strength
and His Armor
Call on Jesus today, be saved, and get your armor!!
