This afternoon, before we seek God in prayer, I would like to once again encourage us to more fully know and appreciate to whom we are praying.
We do that today by reading the letter to the Philadelphia church in
Revelation 3:7–13 NASB95
“And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: He who is holy, who is true, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, and who shuts and no one opens, says this: ‘I know your deeds. Behold, I have put before you an open door which no one can shut, because you have a little power, and have kept My word, and have not denied My name. ‘Behold, I will cause those of the synagogue of Satan, who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie—I will make them come and bow down at your feet, and make them know that I have loved you. ‘Because you have kept the word of My perseverance, I also will keep you from the hour of testing, that hour which is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth. ‘I am coming quickly; hold fast what you have, so that no one will take your crown. ‘He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will not go out from it anymore; and I will write on him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name. ‘He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’
Vs. 7 tells us … “He who is HOLY, He who is TRUE...”
THAT’s who is speaking to the church at Philadelphia.
THAT is also who is speaking to the 21st century.
Never has there been a day when there is a greater need for Truth.
We live in a time when people are totally disconnected from reality — especially the reality of God’s creation and God’s laws for living in that Creation.
There is a belief that we can just make it up as we go along.
That reality is what WE want it to be.
That is a lie from the pit of hell.
Jesus, He who is TRUE, speaks reality — yes, spiritual reality such as:
If God is for us, who can be against us?
But also physical reality — God created us as who we are, not what we imagine ourselves to be
And God sees who He created as good.
As created for GOOD works.
To make a GOOD impact on this world.
Another reality that Jesus declares is that HE holds the Key of David.
No matter what we may believe — He opens doors that no one can shut and shuts doors no one can open
The devil may tell us a door is shut that Jesus has opened — let’s believe Jesus over the devil
Let’s hear the Holy Spirit over anything the devil may say
Believer’s Bible Commentary F. To Philadelphia (3:7–13)

In other words, He has administrative power and uncontestable control:

The open door which Jewish synagogue and pagan cults were powerless to shut is the God-given opportunity to preach Christ to all who will hear. The key of David is an Old Testament allusion to the absolute sovereignty of God in opening doors and shutting mouths. See Isaiah 22:22.

Jesus opens this passage by reminding us that He is who is HOLY, He who is TRUE and He who has the Key of David. Let’s focus on Seeing and KNOWING Jesus: He who is has the Key of David. This reminds us of how Jesus fulfilled prophecy in:
Isaiah 22:20–23 NASB95
“Then it will come about in that day, That I will summon My servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, And I will clothe him with your tunic And tie your sash securely about him. I will entrust him with your authority, And he will become a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. “Then I will set the key of the house of David on his shoulder, When he opens no one will shut, When he shuts no one will open. “I will drive him like a peg in a firm place, And he will become a throne of glory to his father’s house.
Jesus opens this passage by reminding us that He is who is HOLY, He who is TRUE and He who has the Key of David. Let’s focus on Seeing and KNOWING Jesus: He who is TRUE. Jesus is the embodiment of truth because truth is not knowledge to be acquired, it is a Person to be know.
Just like we understand God is love
1 John 4:7–8 NASB95
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
In the same way, Jesus is the embodiment of TRUTH
Pilate missed it ...
John 18:37–38 NASB95
Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.” Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?” And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews and said to them, “I find no guilt in Him.
He said to Thomas...
John 14:6 NASB95
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
John 1:14 NASB95
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Ephesians 4:20–21 NASB95
But you did not learn Christ in this way, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus,
Revelation 19:11–13 NASB95
And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.
Charles J. Rolls says in his book:

If we gaze more intently and examine our subject more intimately, we discover the preciousness of truth's celestial character. For brevity's sake let us tabulate a few of the facts.

Truth is immaculate in stainless purity

Truth is immeasurable in dateless entity

Truth is invincible in endless victory

Truth is immutable in changeless reality

Truth is indestructible in ceaseless stability

Truth is immortal in deathless beauty

Truth is incorruptible in fadeless glory

We may substitute Christ in the place of truth in each case, for He is not merely a sample or specimen of such, but the whole truth.

John 8:31–32 NASB95
So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
Jesus commands His disciples to love truth, to speak truth, to do truth.
(The Commands)
Since earlier this year, during our previous week of fasting and prayer, I felt the Holy Spirit telling me that THIS is the church He wants us to be at this time. The One who is TRUE is looking for ...
A church that, in the anointing of the Holy Spirit, SEES the open door He is setting before us
A church supernaturally enabled to ENTER the open door
A church that KNOWS and KEEPS the Word of God — no compromise (no matter how much pressure by the world)
A church that does NOT deny the Name of Jesus but rather lifts it up and glorifies it.
A church that holds fast and testifies to what Jesus has given us
A church that overcomes
A church that hears and OBEYS what the Holy Spirit says to it.

In the Spirit

Oh, that the Lord would enable us to walk in a greater anointing of the Holy Spirit.
We MUST have that anointing to be the overcoming church Jesus needs in this dark day in which we live.
A Philadelphia church with NO condemnations from her Savior.
The One who is TRUE, gave us the Spirit of Truth
John 14:16–17 NASB95
“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.
The Spirit of Truth speaks OF the True One, and FROM the True One — Jesus.
He fills our hearts, minds, mouths with truth
So, let’s seek a FRESH infilling of the Spirit of Truth.
Oh, how we need Him in a day of lies and darkness!
Let’s seek that fresh infilling because we MUST have the anointing to KNOW the One who is True.
Really KNOW HIM.
Because
Revelation 19:10 NLT
Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said, “No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers and sisters who testify about their faith in Jesus. Worship only God. For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus.”
This world may not realize it, but they need a clear witness for Jesus presented to them.
And God has put us here for such a time as this.
To speak TRUTH from the TRUE One, from Jesus.
In Vs. 8 Jesus tells the church at Philadelphia: “You have a LITTLE power.”
The little power we have is not sufficient to impact this world.
We need Holy Spirit power.
This morning we saw how Jesus warned that in the last days there would be deception.
We want to HEAR the Voice of Truth.
We want to BE the voice of truth in a day of lies and gross deception
So, let’s pray and seek a FRESH and ABUNDANT infilling of the Holy Spirit this afternoon
