On Eagles Wings
Isaiah 40:28-31
28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

I've chosen this text because it reminds me so much of what you told me about Floyd.
First because it speaks of God the Creator--enjoying God's creation was one of Floyd’s favorite things to do. Weather it was the cabin in Minnesota, or golfing with the boys or spending time on the boat. He love God’s creation. He loved it so much that even getting shot while golfing couldn’t bring hime in from outdoors.
The second reason this text reminds me of Floyd is eagle’s Symbol of strength. Floyd was a strong man in several respects. Certainly he was physically strong. He would bend 16 penny nails with his thumbs. He carried refridgerators on his back. He was also strong-willed, or a we germans say, stubborn. Once he made up his mind that was it. Like moving back to Iowa to live after getting married. He also had a strong work ethic. He never missed work, even when work ws cancelled due to snow, he still went. The most important part of his strength was his strength of Faith. Floyd was conscious of his sin and need for a savior. He taught his children the importance of worshipping every Sunday. When He could no longer get to church because of his Health, he watched worhsip on TV. Just two weeks ago He received the Lord’s Supper for the last time.
This text also has much more to say to us than how it reminds us of Floyd
I. God does not grow weary
A. His wonderful creation has been scared by sin
1. Beginning with Adam and Eve
2. Continuing through our sinful nature
B. Evidences of this sin is seen all around us.

2. In the fact that we all will die.
a. We are all sinners and deserving of death

C. God's patience and desire to redeem his creation is seen in Christ.
1. Jesus Christ came not to condemn the world, but to save it.
2. He did what we could not do.
a. He died for us on the cross for the forgiveness of sins
b. His resurrection gives to the believer the certainty of our resurrection from the dead.
II. He has renewed our Strength.
A. Those who Hope in the Lord
1. Not by our own will or power or efforts, but only those who trust in the lord
2. Floyd’s was in the Lord.
a. He had been baptized and confirmed in his faith.
b. He joyfully received Holy Communion both at home and when he could get to church
B. Jesus has sent his Holy Spirit to Comfort us who mourn.
1. He is our strength
2. He reminds us of our place in God's family; of our eternal salvation
3. of the reunion that will be ours in heaven
C. Our Strength will be made perfect in heaven
1. We will soar on wings of eagles
2. We will run and not be weary
3. We will walk and not be faint
Floyd has received the salvation of his soul, He has eaten from the great banquet feast, He is singing is the great Heavnely Choir made up of every nation, tribe language and people. He is even now soaring with the eagles. And for us who remain; for all who put their trust in Christ and his payment of our sins, we to will one day soar on Eagles wings.
