Fallacies
You are alone

Salvation - Now & Not Yet

What people in everyday life think of salvation

Christian word
I am not in danger - no clue about Spiritual
Until Sin Suffering happens
Other’s help, Claims of injustice - looking for how to fix the future?

What Christians think of Salvation

Innately sinful - selfish
Only by God’s mercy, chain reaction
You can rejoice suffering (because they know you are a Christian) - a refining fire. You will come out of it with inexpressible rejoicing and a deeper faith.
1 Peter 1:9 ESV
9 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
1 Peter 1:10–12 ESV
10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, 11 inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. 12 It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look.
2 fallacies about salvation and suffering (because others know you are a Christian)

You are alone

Vs. 10 & 11

The Prophets searched and inquired - curious & hungry for a relationship with God.
What they wanted to know they searched out - the heart of God, willing to do anything to participate in the world being turned right-side up.
What do you want to know? The heart of God? At what cost?
If you have experienced suffering because others know you love Jesus, you are in good company

vs. 12

The Prophets ministry was not directed for themselves or their generation
They suffered ridicule and humiliation from their contemporaries, and we benefit from it
Ezekiel’s vision of wheels with eyes & four-faced creatures with human hands and wings have caused some to suggest he suffered from schizophrenia
Isaiah - wanders through Jerusalem naked
Isaiah 53:3-9
Hosea married the most promiscuous woman
Jeremiah’s underwear
The Good News to you by the Holy Spirit
HS at work in these prophets and the people who brought you the word.
God’s spirit has used someone, or none of us would be here.
Will you be used by God?

1 fallacy - you are alone

2 fallacy - knowing the future will help

These prophets couldn’t see the future - they had their eyes on God
Angels can’t even see these things - bent overlooking
Implied - you can’t see the future - put your eyes on God
God is working on a cosmic plan!
We are blessed to know what we know.
Matthew 13:16–17 ESV
16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear. 17 For truly, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.
We have the results of salvation

2 parts of Salvation:

Salvation now and not yet
Physical healing
Now - initial
The work of Jesus on the cross and resurrection
intimidate access to God as father
What do we have - new ID, access to God
Foretaste - Ice cream
Not yet - final and full salvation
Still in an upside world full of sin and death

Conclusion

The story of salvation spans human history - for those whose eyes are on him.
Will you endure persecution and be used by God?
You are not alone
Will you have your eyes on God regardless of the situation?
There is no salvation or help in the future.
You can be changed today - partly now and fully later, but you have to put your eyes on him.
