Intro to timothy/false teachers

1 Timothy 1:12-13

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service. 13 Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief.

You know, I have always really respected Paul. Yes because he went and spoke the Gospel, but also because he is the definition of a man that recognized his mistakes and strived everyday to fix it and walk out the calling God called him to. We have all heared the term forgive and forget right? Yea, Paul was the example of forgiving but not forgetting what he was like before he came to Christ. He chose to use his story to influence those around him by showing them what he had come from to where he was currently. Paul’s testimoy of his own salvation through these versesprovides a contrast between his proper understanding of the law and the misconceptions of the false teachers, and between the glory of the true Gospel and the emptiness of the false doctrine.
Paul gives us a glimps of the experience that he felt when he saw himself in the light of God’s law rather then the law he believed was right. This was the man looking in the mirror moment, where he finally saw who he was and saw that there had to be a change. Before this, he was a man who blasphemed against God and just by that he went against a majority of the first half of the ten commandments. Then he also said that he was a persecuter and a violent man which then violated most of the second half of the ten commandments.

1 Timothy 1:14-15

The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. 16

1 Timothy 1:16-17

But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. 17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
