Meek
Meek
The meek are part of the progressive characteristics of a truly born again believer:
Poor in Spirit, mourn, meek
Echoes Ps 37:8-11
What is meekness?
Meekness is bridled power (like a horse)
Titus 3:1-7
We in ourselves are uncontrollable, selfish and self-absorbed beings. We are cynical, ruthless, manipulating. We all carry a sense of entitlement and when someone offends us wether verbally or physically we lash out as if we deserve no less than the very best. Because I am good to others, people should be good to me… I know my rights!!
Inalienable rights -
It’s our national heritage, our cultural mindset. It’s ingrained in our thinking that we deserve to be treated in a fair and honest way. But what happens when we aren’t? We treat that person the same way.
80% of the world is ruled by somewhat of an oppressive government
Even here in American we experience this injustice. Our court systems are corrupt. It can be manipulated and paid off to side for evil
It’s not fair!!
As a rebellious sinner what rights do I have? Paul said in Romans 2:1, “You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.”
RIGHTS? What rights do any of us have. God could throw us all into hell
Be thankful He even allows us to see another day
Meekness holds the natural man at bay.
I was talking with my cousin… You can’t drink beer… The Bible doesn't say you can’t drink wine (or beer), but it does say not to get drunk...
Do not get drunk with wine but be filled with the spirit
Meekness is not just a display of a quiet, bashful, introverted demeanor. Those can be the worst. Because you never know what they are thinking. At least a loud obnoxious character lets you know exactly how they feel.
Meekness is of the spirit. The spirit helps us to be more like Jesus…
Mt 11:29 - Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Not a doormat - 2 Co 10:1 Timid yet Bold
Jesus, righteous anger - clearing the temple
Warning in our zeal - 1 Co 6:7
“The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?”
The Lord will repay - Ro 12:19
“Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” n says the Lord.”
Trust in God - 1 Pe 2:21-23
“To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
22 “He committed no sin,
and no deceit was found in his mouth.” r
23 When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.”
