Thirst Trap (Searching for a Feeling) | Michael Todd
Never go to a grocery store hungry. You will by more than you need. You will bring home things you don’t need. Feelings alone can mislead you.
We need to go to the one source that can truly fulfill our need.
Key Ideas
Only Jesus can fulfill our deepest longings.
Scripture References
● Genesis 3:6
● John 4:7-30 (key passage); 19:28-30
● 2 Corinthians 5:21
Outline
Finding fulfillment. Two questions to ask yourself:What am I searching for?Where do I go to find fulfillment? When we can’t find something to truly satisfy us, desperation sets in. Desperate (thirsty) people do out-of-character things.Thirsty: the woman at the well. She was there in the middle of the day because she didn’t want to see anyone.Jesus engaged with her before she engaged him. That’s the grace of God.The Samaritan woman believed that Jesus couldn’t meet her need. She was talking about a quick fix for a physical problem, and he was talking about a permanent solution for a spiritual problem. Don’t fall for the facade of fulfillment, or treat resources like sources. Illustration: drinking lemonade vs. drinking from a water hose.
“When you encounter Jesus, He never wants to do a surface work in your life. He always wants to do something deeper.”
Thirst no moreJesus took our sins upon Himself, so we don’t have to live with them.Jesus gave up His life for us.Call to salvation: let Jesus in. He’ll take you as you are.
“Whatever you’ve been searching for, it’s found in the Living Water.”
