Intro/Welcome
St Paul’s?
How many people did it take to build this?
This is the one time the people obey God
why? — Gospel — Golden Calf — Forgiveness
Prayer
The Call from God (Exod 35:4-19)
The call to give:
treasures, talents and time
according to his instructions
To build the dwelling place of God on earth
Tabernacle then
Church today
The Response (Exodus 35:20-36:7)
Possessions (precious gifts given)
Leaders give (those with resources)
People
both men and women as skilled artisans
Women skilled in spinning
Gifted Leaders (Bezalel & Oholiab)
to do the work
to teach others
Shouldn’t try to do what you are not called to do.
This means that we should do what God has called us to do. It also means that we shouldn’t try to do what God has not called us to do. Obviously God didn’t want people who didn’t know how to sew making curtains for his tabernacle. The way they contributed to this project was not by doing but by giving. Each of us needs to be content to do what God has called us to do and to let others do what God has called them to do. The service we offer depends on the gifts we have been given, as confirmed by the church.
From the Heart
From everyone’s whose heart moved them
those he placed wisdom (skill) in
The Result (Exod 36:3-7)
Overflowing generosity
More than enough
This was a movement of God
The Connection
God gives today and we respond.
God gives new life (salvation)
hearts that respond out of gratitude and faith
God gives skills and gifts
innate skills (steward for God’s glory)
spiritual gifts (that which cannot be done without God)
Today we are building not the tabernacle but the church of God
and it is build of people.
How do we build the church?
invest your talent
invest your time.
application:
Do you know how God has gifted you in skill?
Do you know how God has gifted you spiritually?
evangelism, teaching, healing..etc.
What are you doing with what God has given you?
sacrificing to idols
growing God’s church
10 Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve others, as good stewards of the varied grace of God. 11 If anyone speaks, let it be as one who speaks God’s words; if anyone serves, let it be from the strength God provides, so that God may be glorified through Jesus Christ in everything. To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.
