Habakkuk 2:4 CSB
Look, his ego is inflated; he is without integrity. But the righteous one will live by his faith.

INTRO—

ALL of the proclamation of the Minor Prophets...
Regarding the requirement of Righteousness…the reality of our Sin…the reasonableness of God’s Judgment…the readiness of Salvation provided by our Lord…the necessity of our response of Repentance…and the reward of Restoration
(EVERY bit of this process) is REDEMPTIVE!
Redemptive (Truth)…motivating (energizes) FAITH, and maintaining (establishes) HOPE!

FAITH [Motivated (Energized) by Truth.]

Obadiah 1 CSB
The vision of Obadiah. This is what the Lord God has said about Edom: We have heard a message from the Lord; an envoy has been sent among the nations: “Rise up, and let’s go to war against her.”
“We have heard a message from the Lord”
Nahum 1:12–13 CSB
This is what the Lord says: Though they are strong and numerous, they will still be mowed down, and he will pass away. Though I have punished you, I will punish you no longer. For I will now break off his yoke from you and tear off your shackles.
God promises Judah’s deliverance…from the bully of Assyria (Nineveh)
[Zeph—v. 8]
Zephaniah 3:8–9 CSB
8 Therefore, wait for me— this is the Lord’s declaration— until the day I rise up for plunder. For my decision is to gather nations, to assemble kingdoms, in order to pour out my indignation on them, all my burning anger; for the whole earth will be consumed by the fire of my jealousy. 9 For I will then restore pure speech to the peoples so that all of them may call on the name of the Lord and serve him with a single purpose.
Similarly, Zephaniah prophesies judgment…and restoration. Gotta trust in both ‘promises’
Malachi 1:11 CSB
“My name will be great among the nations, from the rising of the sun to its setting. Incense and pure offerings will be presented in my name in every place because my name will be great among the nations,” says the Lord of Armies.
I referenced this in passing last week…let’s look again. When it comes to the worship (honor) God deserves…He will get it…even though it might look at the moment like even the worship leaders can’t/won’t do it rightly… “My name will be great among the nations!”
Malachi 4:2 CSB
But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings, and you will go out and playfully jump like calves from the stall.

HOPE [Maintained (Established) by Truth.]

[Hag—v. 13]
Haggai 1:12–13 CSB
12 Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, the high priest Joshua son of Jehozadak, and the entire remnant of the people obeyed the Lord their God and the words of the prophet Haggai, because the Lord their God had sent him. So the people feared the Lord. 13 Then Haggai, the Lord’s messenger, delivered the Lord’s message to the people: “I am with you—this is the Lord’s declaration.”
The people feared the LORD in response to Haggai’s message…God said, “I am with you.”
Jonah 4:11 CSB
So may I not care about the great city of Nineveh, which has more than a hundred twenty thousand people who cannot distinguish between their right and their left, as well as many animals?”
God can care for whomever he chooses…Ninevites…Gentiles…among all nations!
[Joel—vv. 19, 23]
Joel 2:18–23 CSB
18 Then the Lord became jealous for his land and spared his people. 19 The Lord answered his people: Look, I am about to send you grain, new wine, and fresh oil. You will be satiated with them, and I will no longer make you a disgrace among the nations. 20 I will drive the northerner far from you and banish him to a dry and desolate land, his front ranks into the Dead Sea, and his rear guard into the Mediterranean Sea. His stench will rise; yes, his rotten smell will rise, for he has done astonishing things. 21 Don’t be afraid, land; rejoice and be glad, for the Lord has done astonishing things. 22 Don’t be afraid, wild animals, for the wilderness pastures have turned green, the trees bear their fruit, and the fig tree and grapevine yield their riches. 23 Children of Zion, rejoice and be glad in the Lord your God, because he gives you the autumn rain for your vindication. He sends showers for you, both autumn and spring rain as before.
God provided for his people in the day of Joel…taking care to restore, renew even the land…and he provides for us today.
[Mic—vv. 4, 7]
Micah 4:1–8 CSB
1 In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s house will be established at the top of the mountains and will be raised above the hills. Peoples will stream to it, 2 and many nations will come and say, “Come, let’s go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us about his ways so we may walk in his paths.” For instruction will go out of Zion and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. 3 He will settle disputes among many peoples and provide arbitration for strong nations that are far away. They will beat their swords into plows and their spears into pruning knives. Nation will not take up the sword against nation, and they will never again train for war. 4 But each person will sit under his grapevine and under his fig tree with no one to frighten him. For the mouth of the Lord of Armies has spoken. 5 Though all the peoples walk in the name of their own gods, we will walk in the name of the Lord our God forever and ever. 6 On that day— this is the Lord’s declaration— I will assemble the lame and gather the scattered, those I have injured. 7 I will make the lame into a remnant, those far removed into a strong nation. Then the Lord will reign over them in Mount Zion from this time on and forever. 8 And you, watchtower for the flock, fortified hill of Daughter Zion, the former rule will come to you; sovereignty will come to Daughter Jerusalem.
V. 4 = picture for peace and safety…and is the Lord’s provision…not President George Washington (sorry, LMM & Hamilton)…And the LORD will rule over his people…Oh, and never forget these words of hope…
Micah 5:2 CSB
Bethlehem Ephrathah, you are small among the clans of Judah; one will come from you to be ruler over Israel for me. His origin is from antiquity, from ancient times.
Zechariah 12:10 CSB
“Then I will pour out a spirit of grace and prayer on the house of David and the residents of Jerusalem, and they will look at me whom they pierced. They will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child and weep bitterly for him as one weeps for a firstborn.
RECALL: what we have seen God reminded the Apostle John He had promised—predicted—prophetically stated…HOPE is in our Salvation!
[Jn—vv. 36-37]
John 19:35–37 CSB
35 He who saw this has testified so that you also may believe. His testimony is true, and he knows he is telling the truth. 36 For these things happened so that the Scripture would be fulfilled: Not one of his bones will be broken. 37 Also, another Scripture says: They will look at the one they pierced.
Revelation 1:7 CSB
Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn over him. So it is to be. Amen.

CONCL—

We see that Faith & Hope necessarily go together!
1 Corinthians 13:13 CSB
Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love—but the greatest of these is love.
Hosea 6:6 CSB
For I desire faithful love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.
“faithful love”
Habakkuk 2:4 CSB
Look, his ego is inflated; he is without integrity. But the righteous one will live by his faith.
“faith”
Amos 5:1 CSB
Listen to this message that I am singing for you, a lament, house of Israel:
“listen to”; Shema…
Amos 5:24 CSB
But let justice flow like water, and righteousness, like an unfailing stream.
