Key Scripture:
1 Corinthians 1:17–18 NLT
17 For Christ didn’t send me to baptize, but to preach the Good News—and not with clever speech, for fear that the cross of Christ would lose its power. 18 The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.

POINT 1
What does the cross of Christ represent to us?
The apostle Paul wrote that "the gospel of Christ ... is the power of God unto salvation..."
Romans 1:16 NKJV
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
The Gospel of Christ and the message of His crucifixion are inseparable. Both are "the power of God". When we hear the good news of Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection, it brings to our life, God's power to save us.
At the age of 13, I came to the understanding that I was a sinner, and needed a saviour, that Jesus had died on a cross for my sins. It was like someone had turned the light on for me, I had been in church for a long time but in that moment something changed. I repented of my sins, asked Jesus to forgive me and save me, and He did! Feeling a change in my life immediately I knew that my many sins were forgiven.
I was born again.
I entered into God's family as a son.
I loved going to church, which was a big change for me.
I was once lost, but now I am found, I was blind, but now can see.
John 9:24–25 NKJV
24 So they again called the man who was blind, and said to him, “Give God the glory! We know that this Man is a sinner.” 25 He answered and said, “Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.”
IT IS OUR SALVATION, OUR REDEPTION, OUR PATH BACK TO GOD
2 Corinthians 5:21 NKJV
21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
New Living Translation  For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin...
What a grace-filled trade! At the cross our sinless Saviour Jesus had all our sins placed upon Him, and then God's righteousness is placed upon us.
POINT 2
Discovering the "power" of the Cross and its purpose for us.
OUR SALVATION AS WE HAVE JUST HEARD:
OUR HEALING FROM SICKNESS AND SORROW:
Isaiah 53:4–5 NKJV
4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
Christ Was Forsaken That We Might Never be Forsaken
Christ Suffered Alone That We Might Never be Alone
Christ Suffered Reproach That We Might be Redeemed
WE ARE RECONCILED THROUGH PEACE:
Ephesians 2:14–16 NLT
14 For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us. 15 He did this by ending the system of law with its commandments and regulations. He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself one new people from the two groups. 16 Together as one body, Christ reconciled both groups to God by means of his death on the cross, and our hostility toward each other was put to death.
Colossians 1:19–22 NLT
19 For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, 20 and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross. 21 This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. 22 Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.
VICTORY OVER DARKNESS:
Ephesians 6:12 NKJV
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Colossians 2:15 NKJV
15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
POINT 3
How can we apply it to our lives
THE POWER OF THE CROSS (EPH 2:12-22)
A. The cross is the battering ram that broke down the wall of separation and bridged the gap between God and US
B. The cross is the instrument that brings peace to OUR soul and spirit YOUR PEACE THAT SURPASSES ALL UNDERSTANDING
C. The cross is the power that destroys the work of sin, because our sins were nailed TO THE CROSS
D. The cross brings us into unity with the Holy Spirit and the Father
E. The cross makes us a part of the church, the body of Christ
Remember Jesus left the ninety nine for the one
Go find and talk to the one
Reach out to the lost
Indroduce them to Jesus

How can we apply it to our lives
The cross is the tool we must use to reach a lost world,
Many times we say, “If I can get so-and-so to church maybe they’ll get saved”
If we can simply lead them to the cross we can get them saved
It is the power of the cross that saves lives
