Blessed Are the Meek

FOCUS

“God helps those who help themselves.” Do you know where we find that in the Bible? Oh, that’s right, we don’t! That is just one example of the reality that there are many people who believe things are scriptural when they aren’t. (Two more are there are many ways to God & there are many expressions of God.) Just as sadly & equally tragically there are many people who don’t believe things that are scriptural perhaps primarily because they go against the culture’s view of reality.

This morning’s message can fall into that second category in that it can seem to be absolutely absurd that it is the meek, not the mighty, who will inherit the earth. One of the biggest takeaways today will be understanding that meekness isn’t weakness, it is power under control. Not unlike the story of the tortoise & the hare, the way things first appear to be can be misleading concerning what the ultimate outcome will be.

The meek …

1. are confident & bold in a quiet & gentle way.

Those who are meek are deliberate, unflappable & not easily upset or given to worry.

Matthew 5:5a

2. can celebrate knowing receiving an inheritance means they’re family.

Inherent in the existence of an inheritance is a preexisting family relationship.

Matthew 5:5b / Psalm 37:1-11

Making It Real

1] Does this description of meekness describe you?

2] How does knowing you’ll inherit the earth bless you today?

Action Step

Write down at least one (preferably two or three) areas in your life where meekness

needs to be more evident & prevalent. Ask God for the grace to make it happen.
