CHRIST AND HIS COMPANIONSHIP
Matthew 28:16-20
I. CHRIST WILL BE OUR CLOSE COMPANION
A. He will be as close as His life in us.
1. We are indwelt by Christ's abundant life (Jn 10:10)
2. We are indwelt by Christ's abolishing life (2 Tim. 1:10)
3. We are indwelt by Christ's abiding life (Jn5:24)
B. He Will Be as Close as His Love for Us.
1. Christ loves us as his bride (Eph.5:25-27)
a. This is a sacrificial love (v.25)
b. This is a sanctifying love (v. 26-27)
2. Christ loves us as his body (Eph.5:30-32)
a. Christ is one with His body (v.30)
b. Christ is obligated to His body (v.32)
II. CHRIST WILL BE OUR COMFORTING COMPANION
A. His Presence Will Comfort Us when Shadows Come.
1. David knew the certain of these shadows (Ps.23:4a)
2. David knew the comforter in these shadows (Ps.23:4b)
B. His Presence Will Comfort Us when Storms Come. Acts 27:21-25
1. Paul was given composure in the storm (v.21-22)
2. Paul was given comfort in the storm (v.23-25)
C. His Presence Will Comfort Us when Separation Comes
1. He enabled Paul to face death with readiness (2Tim.4:6-7)
2. He enabled Paul to face death with rejoicing (2Tim.4:8)
III. CHRIST WILL BE OUR CONSTANT COMPANION
A. He Promises Never to Leave One of His Sheep.
1. He will be there when the wolves come (Jn 10:10-15)
2. He will be there when the world condemns (Heb. 13:5-6)
B. He Promises Never to Lose One Of His Sheep
1. He knows all of his sheep (Jn 10:26-27)
2. He keeps all of His sheep (Jn 10:28-30)
IV. CONCLUSION
A. Companionship with Christ is Light
1. God is light, no darkness in Him
2. We say we have fellowship with him
a. If we walk in darkness we lie
3. Walk in the Light
a. Fellowship with one another
b. Christ's blood cleans us from all sin
B. Companionship with Christ Means Work
1. If we know Him we keep his commandments (1 Jn 2:3-4)
