INTRODUCTION: Worst gift I gave to my mom - chore book??? small bear????

God has given you a gift

Ephesians 4:11 ESV
11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers,
Apostles - sent out ones. There were 12 of them originally.
Prophets - proclaimers.
evangelists - those who proclaim the gospel.
shepherds -literally pastors.
teachers - instructors.
These aren’t the only gifts available. There are other gifts in 1 Cor.12 Romans ??
You also have a gift. That is suppose to be used for others.
But right now he wanted to highlighted the leaders in the teaching roles. This was the gifts that he gave to the church. (Jim, Tom, Kevin, Devin, and I)
These are all in the masculine sense. - weird thing to mention especially on mother’s day. But it highlights this, that God made men the spiritual leader.
So men, be the spiritual leader! be the pastor of your family. You need to be build up the body.

To Build Up The Church

Ephesians 4:12 ESV
12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,
to equip the saints - build up Christians.
for the work of the ministry - wait, I thought pastors were the ones who do all the work. That’s why I tithe, so I don’t have to serve? No!
ministry - or service.
For the building up of the body of Christ - The main work of the ministry is done not by the professionals. But by the church members.
Vision statement - Gather God’s people, around God’s Word, equipping them to make disciples

until we all grow up

Ephesians 4:13 ESV
13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,
Until we all attain to the unity of the faith - We need to build up the body until we are unified.
Unified in what? knowledge of the song of God.
To mature manhood (or womanhood)- he starts a mediphore of growing up - fitting for mother’s day.
to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, - ??? We are to grow until we look like Christ?
Ephesians 4:14 ESV
14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.
so that we may no longer be children, - purpose clause.
if we are men, we are no longer children.
rip current - knocked down by wave as kids??
This is why we need to grow - if you don’t grown you will be carried away.
carried away illustration - little by little?
by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. - notice, this is all sneaky stuff. Meaning that it is my job to look forward and help discipher. Because the danger probably isn’t what you think it is.

in love.

Ephesians 4:15 ESV
15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,
speaking the truth in love - we often lean one way or the other. our culture is about love. Sometimes we lean heavy on the truth but not love. It shouldn’t be 50% 50 % it should be 100% 100%
Someone might be ugly, but haha
Ephesians 4:16 ESV
16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.
What holds our body together? Equipped members.
Builds itself up in love -
CONCLUSION - Building up in love like mothers...
Mother’s day topic. …Chores? We all had a job to do? mine was trash. - long driveway.
