Responsive reading and commitment:
Pastor:
(Deuteronomy 6:4-7)
4 “Listen, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone.
5 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.
6 And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today.
7 Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.
People:
(Psalm 127:1, 3-5)
1 Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.
3 Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.
4 Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands.
5 How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them! He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates.
Pastor(to Parents):
God has blessed you with the joys and responsibilities of parenthood. Do you therefore dedicate yourselves before God and these witnesses to the building of a Christian home and to the rearing of your children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord?
Parents:
We dedicate ourselves to this Holy task.
Pastor(to congregation):
God has blessed us with the joys and responsibilities of living together in Christian community. Do you therefore dedicate yourselves before God to live as Christians before all men and to help these parents make this a community in which children can grow up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord?
People:
We dedicate ourselves to this Holy task.
Pastor:
(Mark 10:14-15).
14 When Jesus saw what was happening, he was angry with his disciples. He said to them, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.
15 I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn’t receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.”
Then, Jesus took the children in His arms and blessed them.
