There is a great dearth of parenting in the United States and to many areas of the world. More than that, there is an even greater degree of failure when it comes to finding godly parenting.
The need is so great that our children are in the greatest crisis of any generation of children has had to face.
Theres is not a crisis of poverty. Poverty is not a sin and it is not a crisis necessarily. Poverty is often relative. What is poverty in America is laughed to scorn in the Philippines. And what is poverty in the Philippines does not compare to the poverty is a place like Haiti.
Theirs is not a crisis of war. Many children have gone through wars in America and they have come out the other-side having lost a parent and at times seeing the ravages of war, without long term problems.
Theirs is not a crisis of hunger - especially in America. They cannot claim that American children are starving, just that American children are sometimes hungry. No, that is not the crisis of our children.
The crisis of our children, is one of the mind. They are affected and influenced in the mind like never before.
I just read of a clinical trial some pharmaceutical company is doing in the Cincinnati area that is doing it on Childhood anxiety.
Why do children suffer from anxiety. Because of the constant influence of a godless society. The infiltration of humanism, over stimulation, sexualization, they are caused to think about things and consider things that should never even be considered or presented to them in the first place.
Children don’t get to be children anymore. They don’t get to enjoy simple carefree enjoyments of being a child. Of having parents that honor that which is most important. Of mother’s who have their God first and their children’s best interest before God.
According Barna Polling: Well before the pandemic hit, Barna research—as well as others’—finds that young people, namely Millennials and Gen Z, are more likely than generations that came before to report battling with mental health issues. In research conducted for The Connected Generation, Barna’s largest-ever study, data show that half of U.S. 18–35-year-olds (49%) expressed anxiety over important decisions and were afraid to fail. Almost 40% said they often felt sad or depressed or lonely and isolated from others..
Recent data show that the mental health strain teens and young adults were under pre-pandemic have only intensified during the crisis.
What is there hope? They need parents that are going to be all in for God and particularly, they need a mother this morning, but more than a mother, they need a godly mother. Let’s Pray!
This morning, what is a godly mother? How could we define one. Everyone in our day wants to be an individual, outside the box of conformity and special. Yet more and more, the special one is the one, who gives themself completely over to God:
I. Godly Mothers Must Be Present
I. Godly Mothers Must Be Present
When I refer to being present, I’m talking about being there to be the teacher, the encourager, the reprover, the example, the person that is involved in their lives like no other. God never called you to just produce offsprings, but He has called you to raise a child for Him.
Most of the great Christian servants throughout the history of the church have been men and women who raised by a mother that was present and involved daily in their child’s life and was the chief teacher to that end.
Why was Timothy the great man of God that he turned out to be?
When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
The faith that was fund in Timothy was first found in his mother and grandmother. That godly characteristic of an unfeigned faith was the product of a present mother and grandmother.
There is next to nothing mentioned in the Bible of Timothy’s father in the Bible. All that we know is that his father was a Greek.
Yet he became a pastor and encourager of many churches because of real faith in him that was passed down from a mother that was present to be the chief influencer of his life.
Oh Christian lady, do you know the importance of the influence you wield. Is it one of faithfulness, godliness, real devotion to God, soberness, gracious, loving, and an abstainer from those things that are wicked and evil?
We will all produce something in our children by our example and influence and presence. Let’s make sure we are there and impacting our children’s life for right and for God!
II. Godly Mothers Must Be Faithful
II. Godly Mothers Must Be Faithful
The example of Godliness cannot be achieved without being an example of faithfulness and there are some very key areas one needs to be faithful.
A. Faithful to God
A. Faithful to God
Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
When God is in the right place in your life - when He is the priority - then all other priorities will quickly line up.
Oh, make a commitment to walk with God each day. To pray and spend time with Him in His Word. There are few mothers that take the time to pray and read the word daily and faithfully.
All women are faithful to make themselves presentable and appropriate before others on the outside, but how important it is to make yourselve presentable on the inside.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
B. Faithful to the Husbands
B. Faithful to the Husbands
The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
There are two almost identical verses that talk about this in the Bible, but they both have just a slight but important variation.
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
Wives, God says that you submit to your husband as unto the Lord and to submit to your husbands as is fit in the Lord.
So - submit to him as you would the Lord Himself, and then submit to him as is appropriate. Meaning we don’t submit as to sin. God is your God before your husband - if a husband asks you to submit to that which is sinful you cannot as a Believer. No more than a believer who works for a boss who is told to sin, he cannot either even though other verses tell the servant to submit to their earthly master as unto the Lord to.
But one of the great testimonies of this generation is a wife who will faithfully, lovingly, and appropriately submit to her husband.
C. Faithful to their Church
C. Faithful to their Church
When we are faithful to church - all of us including women, men, young people, those with children, without children - when we are faithful to church we will come and not just be there, but do several things:
Be there to encourage
Be there to encourage
Be there when the doors are open
Be there when the doors are open
Be invested in their lives
Be invested in their lives
Meaning there to make a difference and invest in individuals
She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
Be willing to sacrifice
Be willing to sacrifice
She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
D. Faithful to the godly upbringing of their Children
D. Faithful to the godly upbringing of their Children
She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
III. Godly Mothers seek to grow daily
III. Godly Mothers seek to grow daily
Know this: growth does not happen over night. But also realize that it does not happen at intervals. No, growth is sometimes slow, sometimes, fast, but always happens in a gradual consistent manner as something is fed.
All plants that God has created both grow on the surface to what you can see, and they grow in the below the ground where you cannot see.
40% of a tree’s bulk is all about bringing in the nourishment. 20% of it is below ground in the roots system and 20% of its bulks are in the branches and leaves.
I think there is a great correlation to our relationship with God.
While much of our growth is seen on the outside and is constant, some of our growth is cyclical in seasons of life, but a good portion of it is when no one else sees, and it is you and God alone. You do have the time, it is what you do with the time that matters.
Abraham Lincoln made the proverb popular when he said, “A godly Christian believer is going to seek to grow my interacting with church and other godly believers and good books they read but they are also going go grow in personal devotion to God alone with His Word and prayer. Growth is achieved by using all of your resources you possibly can to grow.
I can tell you this, to the godly Christian you need to be is going to take a lot more than one hour a week on Sunday morning. Your children and grandchildren need someone that is seeking to grow all of the time.
You might no be able to reach thousands of souls to Christ.
But your children might.
You might not be a pastor’s wife.
But you could be raising a pastor.
You might not be a famous woman speaker.
But your daughter could be.
They might not have your eyes or came from your womb.
But they grew in your heart.
You might not even have children.
But the ones you teach, care for, and minister to.
They love you as a mom.
They might feel like the world is crumbling beneath them.
But they know Momma is holding them up in prayer.
You see Momma, you are important. Without your love, hard work, support and prayers.
Who would guide the next generation to Jesus?
Who would teach them of the hope and courage they need, to go into a dark world and shine the light of Jesus Christ?
It begins with Mommas praying, women teaching little ones, loving them and guiding them along the way.
To all you women out there that raise, teach, love, guide and pray.
Keep raising. Keep teaching. Keep loving. Keep guiding. Keep praying!
God sees you being faithful.
Don’t quit, keep going.
Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
