Introduction (2 Kings 4:8–17)

Elisha met a wealthy woman of Shunem

The woman urged him to eat her food.

Elisha ate her food whenever he passed her place.

The woman requested that her husband make a room for Elisha, the man of God, on their roof that had a bed, table, chair, and lamp for him to use whenever he visited.

He rested there one day and called his servant Gehazi to call this Shunammite women so that he could grant her a favor.

She had no need of favors, but Gehazi identifies her need–she has no son and her husband is old.

So, Elisha prophesied that the Shunammite woman would have a son by this time next year.

Lessons from the Shunammite Mother

A mother of faith who reverences God shows hospitality.

When in crisis, a mother who trusts in God must run to Him immediately and accept no substitutes.

God’s plans for you may involve crisis, but know, believe, and accept that He has your best interest at heart.
