Introduction:
Unless you were born yesterday, or just arrived to this country. I am quite sure that you are aware of the massive societal changes that have shifted the moorings of our culture, where traditional values are no longer valued, and righteousness is a relative idea.
There are also those within the church that, believe this sudden attack is unimportant to the mission and witness of the church!
I disagree!
And I disagree because of the words of our Lord -
Matthew 5:13 NKJV
13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
You see, the flavor of our salt is not only love, but righteousness. Not self righteousness as I have been saying for years, but true righteousness.
When we look at God’s overall creation, we can clearly see three separate institutions He established:
The Family
The Church
The Government
Now, I know that we separate the secular from the spiritual, and believe this to be the right way of looking at things, but I believe it is because we have bowed down to the god of secularism.
So now, think through this for a minute -
If God created everything, and established these three institutions, why are we swayed by a secular society that chooses not to believe in God, or believes that God has no place in our culture?
I mean, what kind of government did God establish?
Because He did not establish the flavor of the month government, that is, one for the agnostic and another for the believer. He established one government for the well being of all, and it is that same government that is uniquely in position for the judgment of evil and the wellbeing of the righteous.
Romans 13:1 NKJV
1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.
Now, following that same logic, what kind of family did God create?
And what kind of church did He create?
Our society is imploding from within and the wave of secular totalitarianism is about to overcome us and drown us all in its wake!
I think the only remedy is found in the shoring up of all three of these institutions.
But today, I will speak only of one - the family, and the incredible influence of one person in that unit - mom.
Proverbs 31:1–9 NKJV
1 The words of King Lemuel, the utterance which his mother taught him: 2 What, my son? And what, son of my womb? And what, son of my vows? 3 Do not give your strength to women, Nor your ways to that which destroys kings. 4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, It is not for kings to drink wine, Nor for princes intoxicating drink; 5 Lest they drink and forget the law, And pervert the justice of all the afflicted. 6 Give strong drink to him who is perishing, And wine to those who are bitter of heart. 7 Let him drink and forget his poverty, And remember his misery no more. 8 Open your mouth for the speechless, In the cause of all who are appointed to die. 9 Open your mouth, judge righteously, And plead the cause of the poor and needy.
The first nine verses of this Proverb are usually overlooked for the sake of the rest of the proverb.
However, the first nine are incredibly insightful, as they are penned by a man, a king, who reiterates what his mother taught him.
This does not mean that he always followed them precisely, but that her words, shaped the way he viewed himself in the world.

I. Mothers are not born, they are made.

Which begs the question - What kind of woman makes the best mother?
Which begs another question - What kind of woman are our young men seeking as the mother of their children?
A. Character influences.
Good or bad, character will influence the next generation!
King Lemuel’s mother, influenced him in such an astounding way that he never forgot the lessons.
I say to the moms who think that they have somehow failed, because the choices their children have made do not reflect their own morals, in the words of Winston Churchill, “never surrender”.
And never give in to the enemies persistent lies that you have failed.
Never stop trying to teach and influence your children for good, because if anyone will influence your children, you will.
B. Sobriety directs character.
A sober disposition is one that leads.
In a world where character is not usually admired, it seems that when we need to marginalize people, we look at their character.
So yes, character is important and I believe still admired, it just for the most part takes a back seat to the economy and other issues today.
Lemuel’s mother’s advice? Don’t allow your senses to be dulled by the indulgence of alcohol or drugs, or anything that intoxicates.
Boy, do we need leaders today that display sober dispositions in their everyday life!
We need thinkers!
We need logical thinkers!
And all this will not come from an education system, designed to overthrow the religious and moral perspectives of families, while taking advantage of the fragile psychological stage of our teenagers, and guiding them and indoctrinating them with the pseudo science of transgenderism and other dangerous isms.
It is the family’s responsibility to educate their children according to the word of God, and that means that mothers must be vigilant.
And if you think that I’m speaking from an alarmist perspective, and taking things out of context, just ask yourself why it is that our society has made it all but impossible for a mother to stay home and raise her own children, or why are they looking for government programs to have your kids under their instruction longer, like the presidents new pre-k program?
Anyone who wants to do the research, will find that the goal posts of the education system has moved quite considerably in the past 20 years.

II. Mothers must instill just compassion.

A. Speak for those who have no voice.
I suppose this is something we are very much familiar with today, as we see many advocating.
But, does this apply to all people culturally?
I think an honest answer is no!
Are we showing compassion to all, or only those we choose deserve it?
Good mothers guide their children in this understanding.
B. Judge justly and righteously.
Society needs to learn this one.
It is better to wait until all the facts are known before we jump to conclusions.
But we are not interested in the truth as much as we are interested in directing the outcome.
C. Plead for the poor and needy.
I love it that growing up, I understood the plight of needy and poor people from my mother.
I guess she thought these were values worth teaching me.
When we see people who are marginalized, suppressed, persecuted, etc. it is our responsibility to plead their cause, to come to their side, to hold their hand.
You know, all of these traits I’ve just spoken about come from a sensitive spirit. And who better to teach us this than mom?
This is where she passes on the gentleness of Christ.
She is like Jesus, and refreshes our soul!
Conclusion:
I have faith in the moms today that are doing their best to raise godly children.
No matter what society tells you.
Regardless of how your children may at times not accept it.
No matter who says anything against it.
Be that mom that never settles and listen to the instruction of the Lord.
You are the key that unlocks the door of possibility!
