Trouble in My Way
Trouble in My Way
For even when we came into Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were afflicted at every turn—fighting without and fear within.
Paul’s problems
Our problem
Fueled hatred

We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
Internal Issues
Internal Issues
If you been in the church long enough, you will have a bad experience
But is that a reason to leave the church entirely?
Church membership at a particular location should not be based on convenience, youth, status, ethnicity. It should be based on whether or not the truth is being preached.
No matter what bad thing happened, Jesus did not do it, but He knows what mistreatment feels like.
For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.
To leave the church because a member offended us is like divorcing a spouse because we do not like our boss.
When we put faith in Jesus, we are never disappointed.
Jesus is never to blame
Love Jesus more than you love your congregation
In you, O Lord, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame; in your righteousness deliver me!
The Enemy Within
The Enemy Within
United State one of the highest depression rates of the industrialize nations
This can be 2 years worth of sermons every day
When folk are dealing with problems especially those related to mental illness this is what they hear in the church:
“You just need to believe more.”
“You just need to pray more.”
"You need to have more faith."
"You're issues are a result of your sin."
"Am I am a good Christian, why am I feeling this way?”
Suffering from mental illness doesn't make a person less loved by Christ and reinforcing that message is an essential task for the Church and it's leadership.
Leadership are not clinical psychiatrist - be are a bridge
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
1. Fear and Love are incompatible. The two cannot co-exist. Love casts out fear
2. Perfected - made complete. Occurs 4 times in 1 John. God’s love is perfected in us when we:
Obey his word - 1 John 2:5
Love one another - 1 John 4:12
We abide in Him and He in us - 1 John 4: 16 - 17
Fear can rob us of God’s perfecting love, but perfect love cast out fear.
As we live the life of a Christian these traits of perfected love become more and more evident in our life and therefore we become more complete.
When you are outside of Christ you’re living and incomplete life.
