Our scripture reading.
We're going to read today from First Corinthians chapter 6. Verses 12 through 20.
1st Corinthians chapter 6, verses 12 through 20.
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful.
All things are lawful for me.
But I will not be brought under the power of any food for the stomach and the stomach for food, but God will destroy both it.
And then now the body is not for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, on the Lord for the body and God, both raised up.
The Lord will also raise us up by his power.
Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ.
Ivan?
Take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot?
Certainly not?
Or do you not know that he was joined to a harlot is one body with her, for the two?
He says, she'll become one flesh, but he, who is joined to, the Lord is one spirit with him, fully sexual immorality.
Every send that a man does is outside the body, but he who commit sexual immorality sins against his own body, or do you not know that your body is at?
People of the Holy Spirit who is in, you, you have from God and you are not your own for.
You were bought at a price.
Therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's blessed by the reading and hearing of his word, please be seated.
Our title this morning is, it's not about me.
It's not about me.
Let's begin with prayer.
father, I thank you so very much for your love for us.
I'm at your love for us does not depend on our performance.
And father.
Even on days when things go badly, you love us the same.
I'm father, we are here today because we are in desperate need of our savior.
We are gathered today in obedience to your word.
You tell us not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together.
You tell us the Gathering more and more.
As the return of Christ approaches and you tell us father that are gathering should d.
To challenge and encourage one another.
To live boldly for Jesus Christ.
No, father, I asked that today, you would communicate the truth of your words Rumi.
That it would be communicated with passion Clarity and boldness and that we would go from here.
Encouraged.
Go From Here convicted and go from here.
Challenged to live for Jesus.
And is his precious name we pray.
Amen.
The prevailing message in our culture is that your thoughts, feelings, and desires are more important than anything else or says, if you want something, you should have it.
Our culture says, if there is something that offends you or frustrate you that things should not exist this message that we are receiving over and over again, is one simple idea and that is that it is all about me.
That's what our culture teaches.
The Declaration of scripture stands in stark contrast to this idea there.
Many verses that we could look at.
Let's just look at 1 to let the ends.
Chapter 2 verse 3 says, let nothing be.
Done through selfish ambition or conceit but in lowliness of mine, Let each esteem others better than himself.
Jesus calls us to love our enemies to do good to others, to pray for our persecutors de challenges us to love better, going to show just a short video clip that talks about this idea of loving better.
What if we could love the way Jesus did?
Passionately.
Faithfully powerful.
What if the way we love, could make a difference in the world around us.
That love looked at everyone, the way God does a love which doesn't see the past.
What is consumed by a desire to see?
People come to know Jesus a love, which is patient and kind.
Not envious or Pride.
A love, which put others before ourselves.
Chooses piece over anger.
Publix protects, trusts.
Hopes perseveres.
We love like this.
Do we love like Jesus?
Maybe it's time to ask a simple question.
Who love better?
I think those questions are so powerful.
When we look at the Corinthian Church, the problem that they had really that at the core of their disunity was selfishness, everyone was putting themselves ahead of others.
The real issue was that love was missing.
It is no accident that First Corinthians 13.
What is often called?
The love chapter is in a book of the Bible.
Written to correct a church for their unloving behavior towards one.
Another, See, they had brought into a counterfeit love, a counterfeit love of inclusivity and compromise.
This happens any time we become so focused.
And that video, we saw questions being asked questions that are of vital importance and those questions we have the answer to as Christians, and we are to be lovingly communicating, those answers to a world that is looking for them.
Today, we're going to work our way through this passage and we're going to be asking and answering questions similar to what was in that video.
There is a problem of focus among Christians today.
We are not focused on what we should be.
The questions we will ask and answer from this passage will teach us to live with a proper focus and it is when our focus is on Christ that we are able to understand life's deepest questions.
Question number one Why do we exist?
Why do we exist live considered a part from the biblical?
God is off and devoid of meaning or purpose some teach that we exist simply to continue existing.
There is a philosophy of thought that we get married and we have children simply to continue the genetic process of reproduction.
Other seeds that we exist to get all you can while the getting is good live life to the fullest and done, right?
Still others teach that there is some sort of special place reserved for those who do enough.
All of these ideas are in contrast to scripture and so in the next 3 vs, we're going to learn five reasons.
We exist.
Reason number one, we exist to seek The Beneficial.
We exist to seek The Beneficial.
Just the beginning of verse 12, 1st Corinthians, chapter 6, verse 12, all things are lawful for me, but all things are not helpful.
The way this is worded is an indicator that this is something the Corinthian Church has said to Paul all things are lawful talks about Christian Liberty, don't you know, all things are lawful for me and Paul says you're right, but all things are not helpful.
What is this word all mean?
It means all everything not specifically.
Prohibited in scripture is lawful lawful is an idea that there are some things that are okay for the Christian and some things that are not that make sense.
Your boss says everything that were not told is wrong.
It's okay, it's lawful it's permitted.
If something is not specifically off-limits, according to scripture, it is allowed.
If it's not forbidden, it's allowed to Paul says, all things are lawful.
Yes, but This work but is a logical contrastive.
It is called and adversative conjunction.
And I tell you that because it is one of my favorite biblical words.
