Exegetical Outline 1

1. The people obey everything Exod 39:32 according to the Lord’s command to Moses (Exod 39:42-43)

2. The brought it all to Moses Exod 39:33

3. Moses blesses them (Exod 39:43)

4. The Lord Speaks to Moses (Exod 40:1-15)

Sets it up (Exod 30:2-8)
Anoint it (Exod 40:9-11)
Anoint the Priests (Exod 40:12-16)

5. Moses finishes the work (Exod 40:17-33)

“just as the Lord commanded him” occurs 7x in 16 verses
last thing he does: Sets up the surrounding courtyard and a screen for the gate (the entrance into the courtyard) thus making an entry point for God’s people and gentiles.

6. Glory fills the Tabernacles (Exod 40:34-38)

fills it so none can go in (also in temple 1 Kings 8)
Sets up a screen into the tabernacle (to be the veil) Exod 40:28

7. Guided by the Pillar of Fire and Smoke (Exod 40:36-38)

for all the stages of their journey (to the promised land) (Exod 40:36, 38)

Finishes the Work / Moses builds the tabernacle

Outline 3

1. Intro/Welcome

We love obedience when it benefits us (traffic rules)
Prop: There is immeasurable blessings in the faith-filled obedience to God.

2. Pray

3. Obedience and Blessing for the People

The people do all the work according to Plan
Moses inspects it
Moses blesses them.
Blessing follows obedience.

4. Obedience and Blessing for Moses

Moses constructs the tabernacle according to God’s Command
The Blessings of God: His Glory & His Guiding Presence
The see the glory of the Lord their hearts desire
The Presence is to guide them for their journey and all its stages
sets the stage for Numbers-Deut to Judges — the Promised Land

5. Blessings for us

Jesus is our obedience

Jesus reverses the order: We are now blessed so that we can obey.
Jesus obeys for us and is the sacrifice for us — Cross Gospel
All the tabernacle imagery

Blessed so that we can obey

the indwelling Holy Spirit
As the Lord’s glorious dwelling in us
To guide us unto his will
To change us to become like him.
Faith-filled obedience brings blessing
Faith in jesus atoning work
Faith in Jesus righteousness for us
Faith in God’s future grace
Faith produced by love and the Holy Spirit.

6. Application:

Stop striving on your own — Enter into the Rest which Jesus gives us
Enter into his presence b/c his presence has entered into you through faith.
Be in a relationship with God
Repent, Believe

Reversal: obedience follows blessing
