The Bible

2 Timothy 3:14–17 KJV 1900
14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

The Bible is God’s inspired revelation with a single plot. The plot is the redemption of man by Jesus Christ for God’s glory.
written down by humans, without error in its original writing, has one single plot, and that is the redemption of man by Jesus Christ for God’s glory. It teaches us both how to experience life and how to live.
The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God’s revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy. It reveals the principles by which God judges us, and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. All Scripture is a testimony to Christ, who is Himself the focus of divine revelation.
Is the Bible relevant for us today?

1. The Encouragement for aBrother

Why Believe This Book? //

Why does Paul address Timothy in this way?

a. The Reason

Paul encourages Timothy to stay faithful to the Word of God.
2 Timothy 3:14 KJV 1900
14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
Paul told Timothy that it would get worse in the future.
Look at what he said:
“last days” - before Christ comes
“Perilous” - means difficult or hard to deal with.

2. The Essence of this Book

Because it’s a reliable collection of Historical documents written by eyewitnesses, using prophecy,

a. God Breathed

Some say, “The Bible only contains the word of God,” or “The Bible is inspired the way Shakespeare is inspired.” But Paul would not agree with these statements. The Bible is the inspired Word of God. The word “inspired” means “God-breathed—filled with the breath of God.” The Spirit of God enabled men of God to write the Word of God (see 2 Peter 1:20–21), for the Spirit of God is the “breath” of God (John 3:1–8; Ezek. 37:1–14). While men like Shakespeare may have had literary inspiration of a high quality, they did not write the very words of God. “All Scripture” means that every word of God is inspired.

What does the Bible say about itself?
Isaiah 40:8 KJV 1900
8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: But the word of our God shall stand for ever.
Hebrews 4:12 KJV 1900
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
2 Peter 1:21 KJV 1900
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
1 Peter 1:25 KJV 1900
25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

What Exactly is This Book?//

The Bible consists of sixty-six different books, composed by many different writers, in three different languages, under different circumstances; writers of almost every social rank, statesmen and peasants, kings, herdsmen, fishermen, priests, tax-gatherers, tentmakers; educated and uneducated, Jews and Gentiles; most of them unknown to each other, and writing at various periods during the space of about 1600 years: and yet, after all, it is only one book dealing with only one subject in its numberless aspects and relations, the subject of man’s redemption.
