Tame the Tongue

The tongue can be used for good (v.1-5a).

Guarding your words = maturity.

Even though the tongue is small, it is capable of tremendous things.

Too often the tongue is used for evil (v.5b-12).

John Calvin: “a slender portion of flesh contains the whole world of iniquity.”

Proverbs mentions the following sins of speech:

Thoughtless chattering (Pr.10:8)

Lying (Pr.12:19)

Arrogant boasting (Pr.18:12)

Gossiping (Pv.10:18)

All of these can cause enormous, sometimes irreversible, harm.

The quality of the spring determines the cleanliness of the water.
