The Gospel according to Mark Chapter Four: Insiders and Outsiders (Mark 3:13–4:34)

In the present section Mark develops with special attention the theme of insiders and outsiders, which is important throughout his Gospel. This is not a separate theme from the authority of Jesus, however, but a subtheme, for the status of insider or outsider is determined by one’s proximity and receptivity to Jesus.

Insiders and outsiders in Mark (as introduced in Mk 3:13-4:34)
Those who follow Jesus are “In”
Those who deny Jesus are “Out”
To be In Jesus means to be a “Who”
To be a “Who” implies “What” we are!
Who (as determined by Jesus, who “Made” us) will inform “”What” we are to do.
