Honor the Mothers
think it would be in order if we said
thanks to our mothers and grandmothers
will all the mom’s and grandmothers stand to your feet
and let us say how much we honor appreciate you today
don't know what in the world we would do without
When Husband Goes to Bed Vs Wife:
Extra time woman without children
Women who never have children enjoy the equivalent of an extra 3 months a year in leisure time,
says Susan Lang, author of Women without children
If that figure seems high, remember that the average mother spends 3.5 more hours a week doing house than woman without children, plus 11 hours a week on child-related activities.
This adds up to an additional 754 hours of work every year. The equivalent of 3 months of 12 hour, 5-day work week.
What we are doing today is honoring the 5th commandment:
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
2 “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise),
3 “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”
A) The Greek word for children (tekna) refers to young children living at home
Wuest’s Word Studies in the Greek New Testament Chapter Six
“Obey” is hupakouō (ὑπακουω), the simple verb meaning “to hear,” the prefixed preposition, “under,” the compound verb meaning, “to hear under,” that is, “to hear under” authority. It speaks of the one hearing as being under the authority of some one else.
Wuest’s Word Studies in the Greek New Testament Chapter Six
Thus, the verb comes to mean, “to hearken to a command, to obey, to be obedient to, submit to.” The verb is in the present imperative, which construction commands habitual, constant obedience here.
“In the Lord” defines the quality and parameter of the obedience.
This is not an absolute command; when a parent tells a child to do something unbiblical, immoral, or unethical, the word of God supersedes the will of the parent. But aside from those extremes, children are to obey their mothers and fathers.
Ephesians Children and Parents / 6:1–4
Obeying and honoring are different. To obey means to do what another says to do; to honor means to respect and love. Children are to obey while under their parents’ care, but they must honor their parents for life.
This is one of God’s top ten in how we are to love others. Love our parents by honoring them.
honor your parents and you will live
long if you honor your parents
indicating if you don't it won't go well
with you and you will shorten your life
How do you honor our mother? I want to give you a few ways to honor your mom.
1) Love her unconditionally
love her when she's young and she has much to give
love her when she’s old and has little to give
2) secondly hug her affectionately
there's a bumper sticker out there that says “have you hugged your kid today?” I think we ought to make one and put it on teenagers doors and say “have you hugged your mom today?”
Tell her that you love her
3) Understand her sympathetically
they wear so many hats
they cook they clean they judge
they make peace
they referee
their sounding boards
their accountants they do so much and
we need to appreciate the great job that mothers
do for us every single day of their life
4) Take her out to eat and listen to her
not just on mothers day but the other 365 days of the year
let her share some of her favorite memories even if she’s told them before.
Make them feel valuable
make them feel that what they have to say is important
because they listen to you attentively all your life
you've talked to them about your greatest problems and your greatest challenges and
maybe now they are in a season when they need you to listen attentively
5) remind her that she is still needed
the enemy loves to whisper you're not necessary
life is over nobody has time for you
you're just a hindrance
you're just a inconvenience to everybody
that's a lie!
when she can't work she still is needed because she can pray
show her that’s shes need by asking for her wisdom through life’s twist and turns.
The Bible constantly associates youth with folly and age with wisdom and tells us that those who have lived longer lives have generally accumulated greater wisdom.
It honors our moms when we seek their help.
the older that someone gets the more we need to show and remember and honor and let them know constantly how valuable and how much we love them
6) Give your life to Jesus Christ
what mothers need most is to know that their children love
and honor God
one of the greatest things that you can honor your mother with is giving your life to God and serving Him
Chuck Norris honored his mother on her 100th birthday this last week.
My mother has prayed for me all my life, through thick and thin. When I was born, I almost died from complications. When nearly losing my soul to Hollywood a few decades ago, she was back home praying for my success and salvation. She even prayed for me to find a woman to change my life, and it worked.
