A father will say, “You will always be my son/daughter”
A mother will say, “You will always be my baby.”
I’m big on formula’s and pattern’s because God does not change, in fact he says, “I change not”
Hebrews says, Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever
He is consistent . . . we often say it this way, “He is faithful”
you can count on Him, He is dependable, He is a rock in a weary land
Yet God’s ways are so above our ways, He can tell you exactly what he will do, and you still miss it . . .
So I’ve learned to trust him, through trusting How he does things
And we are going to look at the actions of a mother. Interesting that the father is not an important character in the story
Background
Background
Pharaoh, King of Egypt has decreed all male babies are to be killed by throwing them into the Nile River.
Recognize what God has put special in your life
Recognize what God has put special in your life
1 Now a man from the house of Levi went and married a daughter of Levi. 2 The woman conceived and bore a son; and when she saw that he was beautiful, she hid him for three months.
odd that beauty is listed as the reason for saving Moses, maybe that’s just cultural (say something nice about babies), but . . .
23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.
they hid him because he was a beautiful child
We also find this detail in the speech of Stephen, the first man to die for the Christian faith, and we get an understanding
20 “It was at this time that Moses was born; and he was lovely in the sight of God, and he was nurtured three months in his father’s home.
lovely/beautiful in the sight of God, there was something special about Him
in the NLT = they translated the thought as special
Moses was special, and his mother recognized it.
She probably didn’t see great deliverer, great law-giver, argubly the greatest figure in OT
but she saw something
You need to realize and then Recognize that God has put something special in your life.
maybe it’s a child, talent, gift, understanding
Take a risk for it
Take a risk for it
Here’s where faith comes in, faith to take a risk
She hid the baby . . . that put her, her husband, and other children at risk . . . the whole household
She did what others would not do
Prepare best you can (don’t give up, give your best)
Prepare best you can (don’t give up, give your best)
3 But when she could hide him no longer, she got him a wicker basket and covered it over with tar and pitch. Then she put the child into it and set it among the reeds by the bank of the Nile.
Baby go so big that she could not hide him any longer, so she prepared a basket, and tried to waterproof it.
It wasn’t the best or ideal situation, but it was the best she could do
The situation seemed hopeless, but she didn’t give up . . . she gave her best
that’s all that any of us can do, our very best
Then she let it go, and let God
Then she let it go, and let God
4 His sister stood at a distance to find out what would happen to him.
Then she saw God work
Then she saw God work
5 The daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the Nile, with her maidens walking alongside the Nile; and she saw the basket among the reeds and sent her maid, and she brought it to her. 6 When she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the boy was crying. And she had pity on him and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.” 7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women that she may nurse the child for you?” 8 Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go ahead.” So the girl went and called the child’s mother. 9 Then Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the child and nursed him.
Jochebed received money to take care of her own son!
Moses was raised by the oppressors
