Romans 5:6-11

This familiar text is the heart of God! It is the true nature of God! Yes we know about the wrath of God, we know about the flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, and all the others that fell into the wrath of God! This wrath is brought upon by His desire to have fellowship with us, as well as God knowing that there is no other way to have everlasting fellowship with Him than to be sinless. Which we are not! No, not one of us here has pulled that off!
Romans 14:8 “For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; or whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.”
This is the most true, solemn statement from the inspired Word of God, that we have.
Whether we believe Him or not, we are the Lord’s! At your death or if Christ comes before, you will return to the Lord and there judgement will be given by Jesus Christ!
So, knowing this the greatest parental love and devotion that has been given is by the Lord God Himself, seeing that we have all gone astray, each to their own way.
Psalm 53:3 “Every one of them is gone back; they are together become filthy; There is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
Romans 3:9-10 “What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; 10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:”
No, not one!!
This is up for you to believe or not! This is your choice to make.
When I made the choice to believe and know that I am nor will I ever be righteous before God, that is when the love of God was revealed to me through Jesus Christ! This passage reveals His love for us!
You might say God is a horrible God, He destroyed all the earth in Noah’s day, but He gave them all a way out! But only 8 people chose to believe in that way!
Now, God has demonstrated His love toward us in sending His Son (righteous deity) in a form that God should never put on. Listen to the words of the song I sing sometime:
a. Now I never could quite understand Why a king would want to leave his throne. To don the robe of an earthly man Feel the pain of the flesh, flesh and bone.
b. In a sermon many years ago, Charles Spurgeon spoke of this: “It was much love when Christ became man for us, when he stripped himself of the glories of his Godhead for awhile, to become an infant of a span long, slumbering in the manger of Bethlehem. It was no little condescension when he divested himself of all his glories, hung his mantle on the sky, gave up his diadem and the pleasures of his throne, and stooped to become flesh. It was, moreover, no small love, when he lived a holy and a suffering life for us; it was love amazing, when God with feet of flesh did tread the earth, and teach his own creatures how to live, all the while bearing their scoffs and jests with cool unangered endurance. It was no little favour of him that he should condescend to give us a perfect example by his spotless life; but the commendation of love lieth here—not that Christ lived for us but that Christ died for us.”
6. The most amazing points to His demonstration of love...
a. We were without strength, no effort in us to make it right before Him!
b. We were sinners, with no desire to return, happy to be separate from God!
c. We were enemies of God, with no desire for peace talks!
7. Yet.....or......but........this God demonstrated for us His amazing love, with no return love from us, He sent His Son .......
a. Christ died for the ungodly
b. Christ died for us
c. The death of His Son
8. As I mentioned earlier about the mother not giving up on her child, God did not give up on us, He made a way for us that shows the He will never give up on us, we only, out of our own desire, give up on Him.
a. 1 John 4:19 “We love, because He first loved us.”
9. The life, suffering, death, and resurrection was done to justify, reconcile, save us before God!
a. Nothing of our merit caused this to happen, God chose to do it, out of His love for us.
b. Spurgeon also preached: “Further, to illustrate my text, let me remark again, that inasmuch as Christ died for sinners, it is a special commendation of his love for the following reasons:—It is quite certain that God did not consider man’s merit when Christ died; in fact, no merit could have deserved the death of Jesus. Though we had been holy as Adam, we could never have deserved a sacrifice like that of Jesus for us. But inasmuch as it says, “He died for sinners,” we are thereby taught that God considered our sin, and not our righteousness. Spurgeon, C. H. (1856). Love’s Commendation.
10. I heard a sermon from a gentlemen this week, that interestingly was titled “Why Did God Chose You?” Why did God set His heart on mankind, by giving His Son? The preacher said this as he was talking about the future grace that He has prepared for us.....: “1 Corinthians 2:9 ‘But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.’ ..........The preacher said don’t you dare say that this is for them that love God perfectly and I don’t. He told the congregation that if they said that he would come down there and whip them. He continued that God’s love begins and ends with Him..... .“Deuteronomy 7:7–8 The Lord did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: 8 But because the Lord loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the Lord brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.” Then the preacher tells them that some will say that they don’t deserve it......he said will you shut-up!....
a. Truth is the love has been given, do believe it? Do you know about this love? This is the only thing for is to actually do, it is to learn about God’s love and then to believe it! Once know about it the greater it becomes for us and pretty soon you are loving Him because He first loved you!
b. This is not something you earned! I go, again back to the mother who continued after her addict child, regardless of where he was and what he was doing! So much so, that if they stopped, that she will be there! Her love for her child, drained her of all her resources (health, financial, friendships, family) but she continued!
c. The love of God is not a love without cost, Philippians 2:7-8But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross........ 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” This unthinkable in the Heavenly realm! This is the demonstration of God’s love!
Turn with me lastly to 1 John 4:9-10............this is one of my favorite passages and I have preached from here before, but bear with me.
The manifestation of God’s love.....God’s love has always been there, but it has been difficult for man to understand, all the judgments and stuff......folks lose their minds over that.....He is a righteous judge, but in His righteousness He loves us rightly, better than anyone has ever loved you! How do I know?.......
If you would take the time to get to know Him you will understand, you will see this love manifested in Jesus Christ, God’s Son, God also Himself!
Again, as verse 10 says, this love has never nor will ever begin with us.........Human existence is in that He loved us! The fall happened because of a lack of love for God! However, God continued after us, not because it is what parents are supposed to do, but because He loves us!!
3. Let us stop with our human knowledge for a while, maybe ever and just listen to God through Jesus and the Holy Spirit (God’s Word).....let us do like the preacher said and shut-up for a while and get to know this amazing love!
a. Let’s stop asking the silly questions that we will never figure out and learn about His love!
b. Let’s stop with trying to figure out what element of human life we can continue and still make it to Heaven!!!
c. We have what we have, the rest is in capable Hands! What we have been given is enough for life and Godliness!
i. 2 Peter 1:3 “According as His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue:”
4. Seriously, if we would shut-up about all the other stuff and focus on God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit and the manifestation of God’s love through Jesus Christ and believe this TRUTH, all the question marks will be turned into exclamation points! Our “Why God’s” will be turned into “Hallelujahs”!!!!! Sorrow will be turned into singing!!!
Jesus said Matthew 11:28-30Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Learn of Him!!!!!
