Intro video of Mary catching Jesus
There is a lot that happens in this video. From the first time I saw the movie that was the movie that was the part that got to me. It was about what Jesus says, “see how I make things new.” Gives me chills every time that I think about it. To see our broken hero. In His time of betrayal, while being mocked, and some of the worst type of abuse. Yet here He is telling his mother watch what I am about to show you. Like a child who wants his mother to be impressed with his new trick. Or a child trying to comfort his mother when she is feeling upset. Or just trying to lift up her spirits. For me that part over shadows the tender moment that Mary is having. When we see Jesus falling she sees her baby falling. When we see our master falling she sees her toddler falling. When we see the messiah falling she sees her eldest son falling. Understand that Mary does not have the infinite wisdom of God. She does not have the fore site of her creator. No where in the Word of God does it say Mary is omniscient. No gospel describes her as being an all knowing spiritual being that God is. It is possible that she has not thought about how her son is going to ascend to the thrown. So many of the people who where close to the Lord could not comprehend the idea of the Lord dying. More then likely the only thing that Mary sees is her baby suffering. What was it like for her? We only have a few peeks into Marys life. Have you ever thought about how she had to change how Lords diaper. Have you ever wondered If she had to teach her Saviors how to speak. Did you ever wonder what it was like to nurse the Messiah? Have you ever wondered did she ever have sing Him to sleep? What was it like for Mary. This video gives you an idea of what might have been during that awful moment.
She just wanted to get to Him. She wants to reach him so can give baby some warmth, some love. Her son was surrounded by people that hated Him. People that He treated with love and affection. Can you imagine feeling so helpless? Can you imagine watching a crowd of people viciously and savagely attack your son. You know we always talk about how hard it must have been for God. But i guarantee it was a lot harder for His mama. She cannot fully understand the battle that Jesus is fighting.
But make no mistake on who Mary was. She was not a dumb or a weak women. Mary was a mother called by God. So for a subject I want to talk about:

When God calls a mother

John 19:25–27 NKJV
Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.
God, Aaron, Mother, Wife. Mothers day wont be long. Happy mothers day
There is not a mamma in this world who was not called to be a mother. It does not matter if you were planing on being a mother, or if you put off being a mother until you were older, or if you were blessed with a happy amazing accident. Even if you adopted or became some one play mother or mother figure. You were called to be a mother. Rick Warren says in the Purpose Driven life that there you are not an accident. That is the first thing he wants readers to understand. That is because God does not make mistakes or blunder. You were not an omissions or oversight. You are not a mishap or miscalculation. We all are apart of the program that God designed. So if you have a child you are meant to be a mother. There are no illegitimate children. No matter how some one gets here it was not an accident on Gods part. It was your calling you to serve as a mother in someones else life. It is not just a title, it is your ministry. When Proverbs 31 talks about virtuous women it mentions motherhood. It can be said that Ruth would be lost without the guidance of her Mother in Law and mother figure Naomi. Mothers are so vital that the first person that the Doctors want new born babies to touch is there mother. Because the mothers heart beat can sooth there baby as they are experiencing new sensations. From the beginning of the birth the mother was designed to bring a child comfort. My mother use to always say we never owe her anything for what she did for us. That is because she understood it was a ministry. That is a ministry of discipline, love and support among other things. My ministry would not be were it is today without the constant support from my mother.
If mothering is a ministry, when are you called? The moment you get pregnant your called. When you become a mother figure to some one in need that moment your called. That is when your ministry has been born. When you understand that it is a ministry, then you can believe that it was God that called you to it. A few things happen when the Lord calls you to be a mother. Let talk about a few that happened to Mary. Then we will move forward.

1.) When God calls a mother she is favored by the Lord

Luke 1:28–38 NLT
Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!” Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean. “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!” Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin.” The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God. What’s more, your relative Elizabeth has become pregnant in her old age! People used to say she was barren, but she has conceived a son and is now in her sixth month. For the word of God will never fail.” Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her.
Mary was called favored by the Angel.
Believe it or not none of y’all are having a Savior for a baby.
As much as you believe that you baby may be perfect nobody is popping any Messiahs out.
But that does not mean that every one of you are not favored.
You do not have to have a the son of man in order to be favored.
If you are a mother it is because God has called you to raise up another member of His army.
He has tasked you with raising up a new disciple.
Now there are so many things that you can do for your child to be a good mother. But do you know that
it is not enough to be a good mother. You have to act like a mother that has bee called by God.
A called mother must understand she has an obligation to introduce that child to Jesus.
My mother was an awesome mother.
She would work 12 plus hours 5 to 6 days a week. Then she would come home and would always prepare a full coarse meal.
Took care of me when i was sick.
Went to the store in the snow at 3 in the morning to get Tylenol.
Front row seat at every sermon basketball game football game award assemble etc.
But without a doubt the best thing she ever did was introduce me to Jesus.
Not just introducing me to Christ but setting Christian standards for me to live by.
Not allowing me to work on Sunday morning because church would one day build my foundation.
Not allowing me to go over my friends house on Tuesday nights because of choir rehearsal.
Because rehearsal was the only way I could be prepared to give God my all.
Making me go to Sunday school class because she believe it was where I would gain christian education.
I am a fan of investing. My kids have shares of stock that they each own and keep up with.
But they know that the is no real investment like the investment in the Kingdom.
That is what a favored mother who is called by God does. They put the mandate on God about anything else.

2.) When God calls a mother she never gives up on a “lost” kid.

Luke 2:41–49 AMP
Now His parents went to Jerusalem every year to the Passover Feast. And when He was twelve years [old], they went up, as was their custom. And when the Feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem. Now His parents did not know this, But, supposing Him to be in the caravan, they traveled on a day’s journey; and [then] they sought Him [diligently, looking up and down for Him] among their kinsfolk and acquaintances. And when they failed to find Him, they went back to Jerusalem, looking for Him [up and down] all the way. After three days they found Him [came upon Him] in the [court of the] temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard Him were astonished and overwhelmed with bewildered wonder at His intelligence and understanding and His replies. And when they [Joseph and Mary] saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, Child, why have You treated us like this? Here Your father and I have been anxiously looking for You [distressed and tormented]. And He said to them, How is it that you had to look for Me? Did you not see and know that it is necessary [as a duty] for Me to be in My Father’s house and [occupied] about My Father’s business?
How in the world did they lose Jesus? This is mind blowing. How in the world did they do this. And a whole day went by before they even noticed it. How does that happen?
This is a question that a lot of us can relate to. Sure you might have never lost your son for a whole day and not noticed it. But how many times have you lost Jesus and did not realize it.
Notice what was happening. They were at a Godly event. Enjoying the godly celebration. Doing there thing. Having fun celebrating God. This was something that they did every year. Even after celebrating in a godly place they still lost site of what matters. That was Jesus.
Fast forward today we have people who are going to church, paying there tithes, and they even serving or leading in the church. Yet they do not realize that they have lost the Lord. That is what is wrong in so many churches today. They may be going to they right place but not keeping site of who really matters.
Can I tell you it is not enough to go to church.
It not enough for you to pay your tithes.
It is not enough to serve at your church.
It does not even matter if you have a good heart or good intentions
If you do not have Jesus in your site then you are the one who is lost.
Notice that it took one day to lose Him and three days to find Him.
Why is that so significant?
That is because even though they were good people doing good things. They still did not understand who Jesus really was.
Look at what it says,
Here Your father and I have been anxiously looking for You [distressed and tormented]. And He said to them, How is it that you had to look for Me? Did you not see and know that it is necessary [as a duty] for Me to be in My Father’s house and [occupied] about My Father’s business?
They were distressed and tormented.
He says , “What do you mean you are looking for me?”
You should have known that I would be in my Fathers House? His is telling them that I am here to work for my Father.
So they do not fully know Him because if they did they would know where they can find Him. They would know the first place to find Him.
But they were the ones that were lost.
That is why it took them so long to find Him.
This was a sharp response for the Lord. He is saying that He understands His mission and that they should understand but they still did not.
In order to understand Jesus as the Savior you have to accept and learn Jesus as your Savior.
He is not your ATM he is not your genie to command wishes from. He is you Savior.
People say you have to ask God for it then believe it then it will happen. It does not work that way.
Luke 22:42 AMP
Saying, Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but [always] Yours be done.
We have the right to ask for anything then we trust that if it is in His will then we will receive it. If it does not come then we have
to accept that it is not part of His perfect plan.
So you have to have a personal relationship with him.
I loved that song I still hear mamma praying and the prayer that she prayed been keeping day by day I still hear mamma praying for me.
As good as that sounds it can create a false sense of security.
I have heard several testimonies about how people believe that they are thriving off of the prayers from there mother and grandmothers.
I do believe that we can be covered in prayer by mothers and grandmothers
As strong as there prayers are they can not carry you to haven.
They cannot save you soul.
You are responsible for your soul.
You have to make sure your soul has been anchored in the Lord. .
You have to know the Savior.
You have to build your personal relationship with Him.
You have to make sure you are covered.
It has to become personal.
My Spiritual father told me that you have to make the scripture personal.
He is Oscars Savior.
He died for Oscar.
He was spit on and Mocked for Oscar.
He got up with all power for Oscar.
Oscar can do all things through Christ that gives me strength.
Oscar is more then a conquer.
No weapon formed against Oscar shall prosper.

3.) When God calls a mother she identifies the sons gifts

John 2:1–11 NLT
The next day there was a wedding celebration in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus’ mother told him, “They have no more wine.” “Dear woman, that’s not our problem,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.” But his mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” Standing nearby were six stone water jars, used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” When the jars had been filled, he said, “Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So the servants followed his instructions. When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over. “A host always serves the best wine first,” he said. “Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!” This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him.
Running out of wine at a wedding would have been an embarrassing event.
Notice the first person who identifies with what Jesus can do.
You can only wonder the amazing things that she has already seen Jesus do in there own home.
It seems as if she knew this is something that He could handle.
Now full disclosure there are some that believe that Mary did not know Jesus could fix that problem.
There belief is that she was just telling him to let him know.
I don't trust that because of in that same verse she tells the servants whatever He says to do, do it.
This leaves me to believe that she may not know what will happen but she fully understands that he can fix it.
Footnote here when we give a problem to God let Him have it.
Notice what she did. She tells Jesus about the problem. And then tells everyone to be ready.
This is how to give the Lord your worries.
We need to tell him then walk away. Notice Mary did not say how are you going to fix it. Or when is it going to be done. Or Jesus the wine is still gone.
No she told Him and she knew that was enough.
After you give something to the Lord leave it with Him and move on.
Now she is telling Jesus about the problem with wine.
If my mother has a bible or a bbq problem she brings it to me.
She is not bringing me a car problem. She not briinging me a plumbing issue. That is not happening.
It seems as if Mary is bringing a problem to Jesus because she believes He can solve it.
Can I tell you Jesus can solve all of your problems.
Go straight to Jesus.
There are times when mamma was able to bail me out of trouble.
There were times when my mother in law was able to bail us out of an issue.
but sometimes the need was to big to ask them for help.
The enemy does not want you to understand this, but nothing is to hard or big for God.
There is no load to heavy.
This was the first of the 35 miracles, signs, or wonders that is recorded in the Gospels.
In case you do not know it is impossible to turn clear clean water in to what the man called the good wine.
It cant be done.
But we have access to the one that did it.
And this was just the start.
But if there is nothing to hard for Him then we need to go to him first.
Skip the resource and go straight to the source.
A mother has to identify those gifts and point there kids in the right directions.
This is not the same as playing sports are getting a job.
When I watch my son playing in the yard I notice he is very quick and shifty.
He would make a great slot receiver in football.
My daughter is one of the best volleyball servers in her age group and above.
That is all good but it not there spiritual gift.
My son has a servants heart and help anyone in need and does not expect anything in return.
My daughter has a passion for helping young children. She has a spiritual gift of patience for any child in need or not.
We have to be awhere of our kids spiritual gifts.
If we put anything over that then we are setting them up to fell.
Juanita Bynum mother saw in her.
One thing that stands out is that Jesus ministry started on the 3rd day. Jesus ministry started on a third day Jesus was found by parents on the third day.

Conclusion: When God calls the mother she understands she has to be there until the end.

This scripture points out another moment of when Jesus overshadows Mary. Here we see our savior at the end of His life making sure Mary is taken care of. Notice that he was not feeling sorry for himself. Christ had seven last saying on the cross. The first He ask His father to forgive the people that are persecuting Him. The next He saves one more soul by promising a thief on the cross that they will be with Him in paradise. That brings us to the third saying our text In spite of what he just been through. He loves His mother enough to make sure she is taken care of. He says Woman behold. The Hebrew word for behold is Lemma. Which means to see with attention. He is telling her to pay attention, to understand I am no longer your son. He is telling her this is who will take my place at your table. It is Jewish tradition for the oldest to take care of the mother when the father is gone. Even though he has other siblings He is telling her this is the one that will take my place. as your son. Because now He is about to ascend as her Messiah.
But what we also notice is that Mary was there until the end. Mary was at the beginning and the end of His life. Mary was at the beginning and the end of His ministry. A called mother of God never leaves her post. She could not save Him but she was there for Him. I know some one may have a child that is lost right now and you feel like you cannot save them. That might be true. But you serve a God that can. So give them to the Lord but never leave them. You can be there for them. It may hurt because you do not agree with the way they are living. But you are still called to be there for them. That is you calling. That is your ministry.

Final thing we notice is a called mother is where she needs to be.

Mary was were she needed to be. Because of that she received a great blessing from the Lord. Can I tell you there are so many times that we miss out on blessing from the Lord because we are not were we need to be. How can we do that? We have to be like Mary. Facing the Lord. Looking at the Savior. No matter how bad it may look. Look to the Lord. No matter what has went down look at the Lord. That is how to position yourself to be were you need to be. Stop praying Lord help my child. Instead pray Lord help me to be what my child need me to be. Becuase that is what happens when God calls a mother.
