Matthew 6:25–34 NIV
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Introduction

Jack had been a compulsive worrier for years, to the point it was ruining his life. He saw a psychologist who recommended a specialist who could help him. His friend, Bob, noticed a dramatic change and asked, "What happened? Nothing seems to worry you anymore."
"I hired a professional worrier and I haven't had a worry since," replied Jack.
"That must be expensive," Bob replied.
"He charges $5,000 a month," Jack told him.
"$5,000!!! How in the world can you afford to pay him?" exclaimed Bob.
"I don't know. That's his problem."
How many of you today struggle with worry and anxiety?
I must admit that I am one of those who could worry and get anxious about the simplest of things ?
The worst is when you do not normally sleep good and then you add worry to it , it makes it even worst......
Right now I am sure that many of you are struggling with worry and anxiety over Covid 19..
The situation in this country is alarming and it is very scary at this time
No matter how much precautions we take there is always someone out there who isnt cautious and they put your life at risk
Tonight I know that there many of you who are struggling and have your concerns
Some of you probably have kids who have to write exams
Not sure if it safe to do SEA OR CXC right now
I know that there are many of you today who probably may not be working or may be working reduced hours
and that is a cause for deep concern
It is very easy for someone to say do not worry when everything is going right in their life
Today in this portion of scripture Jesus addresses worry and anxiety
He shares 5 reasons why we ought not to be worried

Worry is Inconsistent

Matthew 6:25 NIV
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?
There is a saying in Bible study that whenever a verse starts with the word therefore you should ask what it is there for and it is helpful to read what preceded that verse
When we look back a few verses before we see that Jesus was addressing the topic of money
He was speaking about people who only were studying money and were concerned about having enough
He knew that money is a concern especially when you are poor and lacking
Bill Gates of Jeff Bezos
He said our God cannot be both money and him
We need to have our priorities right
Worry is something that is inconsistent
Our focus should be on God and not money because God is ultimately our source and our provider
So it is inconistent
he talks about 2 things that are great worries and concerns of people today
Food and Clothing
Now in this Pandemic we are seeing how important food is to people
Food is a necessity and it gives great concern to people when they cant get any
No more KFC no more Chinese no more Restaurants
Pressure
Stock up on toilet paper if you now learning how to cook

Does this verse mean we shouldn’t care at all what we wear or about investments or monetary matters? No. The meaning here is that we are to take no anxious thought, or literally, “Take no worry.” The word worry means literally “to strangle.” If you’re worried about what you’re wearing, eating, or drinking—about what you have or don’t have materially—your personality will be tied in knots and strangled.

I once read that it takes sixty trillion droplets of fog to cover seven city blocks. Now sixty trillion droplets, or seven city blocks’ worth of fog, can close down airports and tie up cities. Yet, if you condensed those sixty trillion fog droplets, you would end up with only half a glass of water.

That’s a good picture of what worry is all about. You begin with something little, only half a glass of water. But you start thinking about it and wrestling with it, wondering, How is this going to work out? How am I going to do that? And before long, you can’t see straight, and your airport is shut down. You’re not hearing from the Lord, and you’re not soaring with the Lord as you once did because you’re all fogged in. Jesus said, “Don’t take any anxious thought whatsoever. Don’t let worry strangle you. Don’t end up in a fog.”

Worry is inconsistent . If we can trust Jesus to provide us with our life, can we not also trust him with our daily needs
ABOUT 90% of tings in our life are right and about 10 % are wrong. If we want to be happy all we have to do is concentrate on the 90% that are right and ignore the 10 % that are wrong. If we want to be worried and bitter and have stomach ulcers, all we have to do is concentrate on the 10% that are wrong and ignore the 90% that are glorious - Dale Carnegie

Worry is Irriational

Matthew 6:26 NIV
26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
It’s just unreasonable when you think about it.
Worrying shows that one has “little faith” in what God can do
Jesus compares us with birds.
Now I must admit I am not a fan of birds.
Bird flies in the house
We tend to be more dumb when we worry
One thing about these birds is that they do not worry. That is one nice thing about birds.
They do not worry about tomorrow.
They do not go looking for worms and saving worms for a rainy day. They are fed by God who provides for them.
God is ultimately their provider .
Worrying abiut whether you have food or not is not going to change the circumstance
Now I know what some of you are thinking and let me answer that question right now
Should I just sit back and do nothing and wait for God to provide evertyhing for me ?
Is that what God is asking me to do?
Disney Plus account
What is prohibited is worry, not work. Even the birds have to spend a lot of energy in hunting or searching for their food, but the point is that it is there to be found. And it is provided by your heavenly Father; a true understanding of that phrase is the ultimate antidote to anxiety.
Jesus was not advocating waiting lazily for God’s provision, but avoiding anxiety as we take responsibility for obtaining it.
Yes if we need a job we do send out a resume and put the result in God’s hands
Yes if we want to pass SEA we do study and trust that God’s will takes place and we get the school he wants for us.
Jesus says in this scripture that we are more valuable than these birds.
Trust him to take care of you.
You are way more valuable.
Jesus want us to know that we have huge value in his eyes.
If we were not valuable Jesus would not have died for us
You are loved and cared for by God.
Your current situation is not accurate in deteremining whether God loves you or not .
He loves you with an everlasting love
The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Five: The King’s Principles: True Worship (Matthew 6)

All of nature depends on God, and God never fails. Only mortal man depends on money, and money always fails.

Today, God wants you to know that you are not of the world’s system. You are of the kingdom of God — the same kingdom that feeds the birds that do not toil, but simply trust their Creator for all their provisions in life. Be convinced that you are of more value to your heavenly Father than the birds, and let Him give you the good life without the toiling and laboring of the world.
Worry is irrational

Worry is Ineffective

Matthew 6:27 NIV
27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
Now this is one common sense reason that we all know about
One thing about worrying is that it does not change anything at all
It does not add anything of value to you
If you have an exam tomorrow , worrying will not stop you from having the exam
A lot of the times we worry about things that will never ever happen
It adds nothing to our lives
It is very ineffective
Worry basically robs of of the present because of what could happen in the future
We become worried and very anxious over what could happen
We play out all the different scenarios in our minds and our imaginations and as i said they before
It never happens in real
Jesus said it doesnt add a single hour to your life
but guess what it can take away hour from your life
Death was walking toward a city one morning and a man asked, "What are you going to do?"
"I'm going to take 100 people," Death replied.
"That's horrible!" the man said.
"That's the way it is," Death said. "That's what I do."
The man hurried to warn everyone he could about Death's plan.
As evening fell, he met Death again. "You told me you were going to take 100 people," the man said. "Why did 1,000 die?"
"I kept my word," Death responded. "I only took 100 people. Worry took the others.”
Matthew Jesus Teaches About Worry / 6:25–34 / 62

Many of us would do well to ask ourselves this question every morning. Daily we face new challenges, concerns, problems, and choices. Will we worry, or will we pray? Will worrying be of any help whatsoever? Because of the ill effects of worry, Jesus tells us not to worry about those needs that God promises to supply. Worry may damage our health, cause the object of our worry to consume our thoughts, disrupt our productivity, negatively affect the way we treat others, and reduce our ability to trust in God. Worry may, in reality, take time away from our span of life rather than adding to it. It accomplishes nothing.

My friend, when you worry, you are actually believing that the devil has the power to make inroads into your life that God cannot protect you from. But when you refuse to worry, you are putting your faith in God. You have more confidence in His love and power working for you than in the devil’s ability to harm you! When you refuse to worry, but choose to rest in the finished work of Christ, you will see the manifestation of your blessing. You will see your miracle!

Worry is Illogical

Matthew 6:28–30 NIV
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?
It makes no sense when you look at the flowers Jesus says
Jesus talks about clothing today
One of the biggest concerns we have today is clothing
Now i will admit that most of us have more clothes than we needs
most of us have a lot of clothes that we can give away or sell or just dump
It is too much that we have but yet we hold on to them and we also want to get more clothes
WE stress out and we worry about clothing
If we have 3 wedding to go to in May is 3 sets of dress we have to buy
Can’t go with the same dress - People will realise it when they pics go up on Instagram
We worry and we stress out about clothing
Clothing and the way we dress nowadays is a very big thing
Some of the most expensive clothing that a lot of girls wear today hardly have any material in it but it very costly.....
Everyone wants to be hip
Everyone wants to look cool
Even in the church too
People wnat to outdress others
Preachers and Sneakers
So we worry a lot abou what we may wear but when you think about it it is very illogical
Jesus compares it to the flowers of the field
These flowers are so beautofully clothed and they do not do anything really and Jesus says not even Solomon could compare with these flowers
You might be wondering who is this Solomon
Solomon was important because he was the richest and most wise King in the Bible.
He was so rich and so wise that everyone used to talk about him. One day the Queen of Sheba decided to visit him and see if what people were saying about him is actually true or a lie....
When she met him she was actually blown away with how rich and wise he was.
The stories about Solomon could not do him justice to the type of person God had made him.
But yet Jesus is saying Solomon cannot compare with the flowers he created
In other words it is God who will take care of you.
When worry or anxiety intrudes, turn to God who cares for the flowers and provides food for the birds.
If God can clothe the grass of the field can he not also clothe all of us?
Worry is illogical

Worry is Irreligious

When we worry we act just like those who do not know God.
Matthew 6:31–32 NIV
31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
Jesus gets to the heart of the problem now and that is our priorities
What it is you living for right now ?
Are you after food, clothes, money and all these things of this life?
Or are you prioritizing things of the Kingdom
Think about the audience Jesus was speaking to at this time
These men had left everything to follow Jesus
Matthew was a tax collector which had big money in it. These fishermen used to make lot of money selling fish.
These men had wives most likely. Peter had a wife.
When you have a family obviously these gonna be some of your concerns
You want to make sure your family have food, clothing, shelter, money etc
These disciples of Jesus were probably wondering if they made the right decison to follow Jesus.
Some of you listening today might be windeirng the smae thing
Jesus is saying that God your father knows what you needs and will provide
He is saying put me first and see what I will do for you.....
Don’t be like those who have no hope.
God will provide for you.
He is your Jehovah Jireh tonight
Seek him first. Talk to him .
He has your best interests at heart.
Sometimes it seems like he is silent
He wants you to know that when it seems you cant see his hand you need to trust his heart.
jesus took care of the disciples and he will take care of you
As children of God he will take care of you.......
Seek him. Go afer him, long for him......
He will be your sustainer.
He loves and cares for you.
