Strength for the Journey

Matthew 11:28–30 KJV 1900
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Our world is in turmoil...
People who have greater knowledge, better provisions and possessions, and are more anxious than any other time in our history...
Fear
Anxiety
Depression
Suicide
These are at all time high’s according to reports...
Meds - we need
Downers to sleep
Uppers to get up
Psychotropic - mind altering drugs, pot to smoke, THC to cope
There is a pill, a tag and a diagnosis and an excuse for everything…
There are physical / mental issues that need medical help… but most of life’s trials, trauma and tragedy are not all to be dealt with in the physical realm - but in the spiritual realm.

Strength for the Journey

Pray:
In Matthew 10 -11, we find the Lord instructing his 12… These chapters have direct instruction to the 12, but there are times where the Lord turns to the multitude around and includes them in the conversation… he then returns his attention to his 12, makes the contrast - between those who have received the Savior and those who did not - 11.25-27…
And to them… those who have received the Lord, we find this great invitation...
But it wasn’t only to them - it has been preserved FOR US...
But notice the context:
The Labor
“Come unto me, all ye that labour...” 11.28
This labor was called out
Matthew 10:5–8 KJV 1900
5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
Go not - way of the gentiles
Go - lost sheep of the house of Israel
Preach - the kingdom is at hand -
declaration
destination - heaven / hell
decisions - salvation is a personal choice
heal
cleanse
raise
cast out
freely give…don’t profit on the work of the Lord - it is not a business venture
OT - Is.61.1-3
NT -
Luke 4:17–18 KJV 1900
17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
A great amount of labor was to be done and had been done...
Rest is required for labor to continue
Rest in Christ is reward in itself
Matthew 11:28 KJV 1900
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
The Labor
The Load
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden...”
It was more than a load, it was a heavy load...
the mere work was not the load...
Matthew 10:16–23 KJV 1900
16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. 17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; 18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. 19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. 20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. 21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. 22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. 23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.
Sheep in the midst of wolves - vs 16
They shall deliver you up - vs 19
Ye shall be hated - vs 22
Persecution - vs 23
Flight - another city...
The Labor
The Load
The Love
Matthew 11:28 KJV 1900
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
O what a blessing - we have a Savior that loves us so much, he will give us rest...
Rest - to quit our labor?
Rest to retire our load?
Rest to RESTORE
Matthew 11:28–30 KJV 1900
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Rest unto your soul...
Restoration to your soul...
Matthew 10:23–33 KJV 1900
23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come. 24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. 25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household? 26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. 27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops. 28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows. 32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. 33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
Fear them not - vs 26
Fear not - vs 28
Fear Him - vs 28
Fear ye not - vs 31
They needed to be revived, restored, rejuvenated…
Fear Discourages
Fear Depresses
Fear Disengages
Fear Depletes
The work of the kingdom is not easy...
The work of the believer is not without difficulty or destress
The work of the Lord - is empowered by the Love that the Savior has and gives to each of us individually...
There were many burdens that these 12 were going to face...
There were many barriers that they would have to cross
BUT - There were many blessings that were afforded them...
