Review of Part 1

The nature of sin
transgression
lawlessness
rebellion
The Origin of Sin
not God
the first sin was committed in heaven
“lucifer”, the anointed cherub, desired to go beyond the purpose of his creation and wanted to be like God
The sin committed in the garden of Eden
symbolized by the ‘eating’ of a fruit
revealed by the immediate results of the sin committed
the man and the woman became ashamed of their private parts
the body of the serpent was cursed
the productive system of the woman was cursed
the seed of the serpent and the seed of the woman become enemies
the
the actual sin committed was sexual: Eve gave her body to the serpent, which the devil used to corrupt humanity in an attempt to build his own family/kingdom
Adam was not deceived, nevertheless he also transgressed God’s law and was made responsible for the fall of man, being the head of humanity

The Consequence of Sin

Question: What are the consequences f sin?
Death - as a consequence of sin
Genesis 2:16–17 NKJV
16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
Death - as the penalty of sin
Romans 6:23 NKJV
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Ezekiel 18:4 NKJV
4 “Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father As well as the soul of the son is Mine; The soul who sins shall die.
symbolic expression of separation from God
man is dead to sin
man is dead being separated from the life - God

1. man was removed from the presence of God

Genesis 3:22–24 NKJV
22 Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”—23 therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. 24 So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.
this removal the presence of God result in -
physiacl death - man did not live more a “day” before God
Genesis 5:3–5 NKJV
And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. After he begot Seth, the days of Adam were eight hundred years; and he had sons and daughters. So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years; and he died.

2. the whole human race was condemned to sinful existence

Romans 3:23 NKJV
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 5:12–14 NKJV
12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—13 (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.

3. Original sin - humanity inherited the corruption of sin

the first sin of Adam
the sinful natured possessed by every man since Adam
also called “depravity”
completely void of original righteousness
Psalm 51:5 NKJV
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me.
has no affection toward God
Romans 1:25 NKJV
25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
defiled from the inside
Matthew 7:15 NKJV
15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.
continued bias toward evil
Genesis 6:5 NKJV
5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

4. The Guilt from sin

it is the acknowledgment that one has committed sin against God
it is the acknowledgement that one deserves to be penalized for one’s sins
Adam and Eve sewed fig leaves - to hide the fruit of sin and somehow dismiss the guilt

5. The Judgment of sin

Physical death is but a foretaste of the coming judgment.
Acts 17:31 NKJV
31 because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.”
John 5:27–29 NKJV
27 and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man. 28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.
second death - the lake of fire
Revelation 21:8 NKJV
8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
2 Thessalonians 1:9 NKJV
9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,

The Solution for Sin

Question: What was God’s solution for sin?
Why did God allow sin
Sin is seen in light of the righteousness of God
God allowed man to sin so that His righteousness may be fully expressed in man’s sinfulness and in God’s gracious act
Illustration
God allowed Israel to sin against Him, with warnings and exhortation so that His righteousness may be magnified
first, in their sinfulness
second, in His saving grace
The only solution for sin is in God
knowing the extent of the result of sin, God has provided the solution for sin
a sacrifice has been provided for since the beginning of time
Revelation 13:8 NKJV
8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
Ephesians 1:3–6 NKJV
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.
2 Thessalonians 2:13 NKJV
13 But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth,
the death of Christ was for the condemnation of sin
Romans 8:3 NKJV
3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,
the death of Christ was for the propitiation of our sin
Hebrews 2:17 NKJV
17 Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
Romans 3:23–26 NKJV
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, 26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
1 John 2:2 NKJV
2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.
God’s judgment on the cross
death for death
blood for blood
Leviticus 24:17–20 NKJV
17 ‘Whoever kills any man shall surely be put to death. 18 Whoever kills an animal shall make it good, animal for animal. 19 ‘If a man causes disfigurement of his neighbor, as he has done, so shall it be done to him—20 fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; as he has caused disfigurement of a man, so shall it be done to him.
God’s justice required that man’s sin be condemned
Romans 5:18–21 NKJV
18 Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. 19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous. 20 Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, 21 so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Just the sin came by the free will of man
Salvation comes to us by the free will of God!

Conclusion

Man willingly disobeyed God in the garden, resulting in the corruption of the human race, both physically and spiritually, and death.
God has provided the solution to the fall of man in the person of Jesus Christ, whose death on the cross satisfied the righteous requirement of God, and results in the forgiveness of sin through faith in Him.
