Reasons for memorizing

Joshua 1:8 ESV

8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Psalm 1:1–3 ESV

1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

Methods of Memorization

1. Repeat one/two verses over and over

Close your eyes after a few times

2. Take flash cards with you everywhere

Practice the verse regularly

3. OBFUSCATE

Cover up a different word each time you reread the verse

4. Record yourself reading the verse and listen to it over and over

Record slowly and repeat as each word or phrase is said
